My 60 gb launch ps3 finally got the ylod while playing god of war 3 yesterday. I just sent it off to gophermods for their repair service and was looking online for ways to help keep it running cool when I get it back. I had already done a thermal paste change on it to arctic silver 5 but have been hearing good things about this thermal paste called IC Diamond. which is supposed to be alot better than AS5. Has anyone tried this one? also I found this guide online, http://kentb.blogspot.com/ , which shows how to make your ps3 fan run faster. has anyone tried that either? any other suggestions would be helpful as I don't want to get rid of this ps3, and I can't afford a new one right now anyways.

You need to speed up your fan to keep it cool, that's the only way. Dont waste your time with an external fan. Using a high speed fan against a slow moving fan does not work if you think about it. Check out my sig for more help.

I still haven't found the balls to open up my PS3 but I have been concerned with heat because my system runs constantly.

I bought two small fans at Walmart for $6 ea, I place one in front blowing towards the system and one by the exhaust port blowing away from it.

I have no numbers to back it up, but it seemed to make a difference.

Then again, I rarely use it for gaming and hardly ever use discs at all. My hope was running everything off of two HDDs will keep the system cooler and hopefully it will last longer.
