null modem cable is not an rs232 serial cable. its a totally different wiring config. it is what it says it is. a null modem cable. google it. you will be able to see how the internal wiring is different to rs232

ALL CREDIT TO THE AUTHOR SG8
These are the cables you need to flash the firmware.
If you have a computer or a laptop with a 9 pin serial com port which is male on the back all you will need is this,
Female to Female Serial Null Modem Cable which looks like this,
Heres the NULL MODEM CABLE Code L71BT

Make sure you do not buy a Serial RS232 9-Pin Female to Female cable as SG8 has stated below.
they seems to be quite a few people buying this from mapl*ns,
It has to be a SERIAL NULL MODEM CABLE Like the one above!!
rs232 cable wrong one

If you have a computer or laptop without a 9 pin serial socket you will still need the
Female to Female Serial Null Modem Cable as above and this USB to Serial DB9 Adaptor Converter
to make it fit into your USB port
USB Adapter Cable Code ZP43W

If you have a pc and you are struggling with the usb adapter as above you could add a
PCI serial card which is easily added to you PC and with this all you need is the null
modem cable which gives you a direct link from your box to the pc.
comport pci card

well then you are going to need the usb adapter as well then when you get the adapter make sure you load the little wee disc first to the laptop BEFORE plugging the usb cable into the laptop then all you do is plug the usb into the laptop then attach the null modem to the other end of the usb adapter and then cable onto the box and flash
