A little off topic but without a working optical drive, there's no way you can run PS3 backups. You are required to insert a original PS3 disc in order to play backed up games. Currently, there's supposedly a patch that enable direct game launching without the need of an disc being in the disc drive, but that patch is flaky ass hell and is not working properly. Unless all you care about is homebrewing and emulating, then you don't need a working bluray drive.
