Xbox Dvd drive problems

Hi... ok so i have had my 360 for about a year and i had gotten it new from a friend of a friends of my moms. now the issue i am having is it appears to only read everything as a dvd. that is if it will even try to read it. the other issue appears to be that it keeps thinkng that it is opening and is not. it wont even open or close any more after i replaced a motor that seemed to have gone out.
Can some one plz give me informaton i havent already heard... i really just wanna play my damn games i just searched for answers for a bout a month i think my console just hates me :/

is the drive modded? if u have the firmware key u can just buy a new drive and flash it.

how and\or where do i find the firmware for a new drive so it can be flashed. i replaced my drive, but it only reads dvds. when i put in a game, it says to play in 360 console. also how do i flash it onto 360? please help me before i smash this thing!

you cannot just replace the drive, the drive board on your old drive has to be changed to the new drive, assuming you purchased the same drive. if you did not purchase the same drive then you will have to spoof the key to the new drive in order to get it to work.

that's what i was wondering how to do. not same brand. had a phillips and found burnt board xbox and swaped to a 2008 "stock" drive. old one was 2007 repaired model i bought from auction and think they moded drive for up-grade. just want it back "stock", if you will. was reading about adjusting pot screws, if that doesn't work on old drive, was just planing on flashing it to read stock drive back

You still need to dump the firmware from the ORIG drive and spoof to the new one.

ok, where would i find the firmware for that? and would that be where i need to atatch drive to my computer, and flash it that way? or can i dl firmwaare to a flash drive and load it that way. if so, do you know of link i can goto to get what i need?

ok been reading up on it. i think what i need to do is pull info off old drive and move it to new drive because brands are different. what program is good to use to do that as i am new to xbox repair. i'm guessing i should plug drive into computer and use xbox for power on drive. now just trying to figure out whats the best program to do that with
