with jailbreak, jailbroken, ps3break and etc coming out from everywhere, will these things work on any ps3 irregardless of the ps3's firmware or it has to be still 1.41
As far as I know, you must have the 1.41 version right now, but I have read this. If you replace the internal HD of the ps3, you must have a firmware update. If you could acquire this update to a flash drive and replace hd, or format the one you have and reload it with the older firmware, it might work. Again, I have just read that it asks for a firmware update when the hd is replaced, ive never done this myself.

oops, I meant 3.41, but can anyone confirm the process I described above? Replacing the hd and using the 3.41 firmware when being asked to provide an update? Im curious about if this is possible.

I really don't think it would be possible, older consoles don't have the firmware stored on HDD and newer ones don't have it fully installed on HDD.
If you go to 3.42 you are basically screwed, though if you are on 3.41, it may be possible to downgrade some time in the future.

Damn, I wish it was that simple. LOL. It's not possible to downgrade firmware via HDD swapping. If that was the case, everyone would have jumped on it. The firmware itself is embedded into the PS3's chip and there's no know dev yet, who was able to break the security of the firmware. Whether swapping for an old or new HDD, if the system's requires firmware 3.42, that's what you'll need to use. There's no way around it unless you've developed an exploit/hack to downgrade the firmware.
If you're on 3.42, you're stuck and have lost the ability to exploit your PS3. At least for the moment which, knowing Sony, can also be for a VERY long time if they've managed to patched and prevent future exploits.
