Howdy,

I am capturing from my Hi8 cam through a Canopus ADVC-100 with WinDV. The preview during capture looks fine, but when I playback the file, there are grey blocks on most frames- always in the same places. Same happens with DVIO. Capturing with Windows Movie Maker or Scenalyzer doesn't have the problem.

Any ideas?

My PC is new and pretty hot- AMD Athlon 64 3000+, ECS 755-A2 motherboard, 2 SATA drives set up as RAID-0; Adaptec 4300 FireWire card (w/ TI chip).

Thanks,
Ken

Well maybe the problem could be related to the Fact there is a Compatibility problem with the ADVC-100 and Firewire Cards useing the Texas Instruments Chipset...
If you don"t have the Problem useing Scenealizer or Movie Maker then use them instead...makes sence??....Cheers

I've seen mention of the Canopus ADVC-100 problem with TI chips- does anyone know where I can find details?

I prefer WinDV's DV .AVI file output over Movie Maker's .wmv file output. Also Scenealizer costs $40 bucks and I'm a tightwad.

Also, since Scenealyzer and MM capture fine, I thought the data was getting into the PC correctly, but the file output was getting screwed up. Is there some sort of codec-like software involved in getting the data into the right file format which WinDV and DVIO share, but Scenealyzer and MM don't?

I read about the Compatibility problems from useing Texas instruments Firewire cards on the Canopus Web site I think, it is a well known problem...

Maybe WinDV Captures Type 1 DV and the others capture Type 2 DV or Visa versa.....

Well Good Luck
