Hi

Still experiencing probs with this darn VIA card. Although it was advertised as 6421 it shows up in device manager as 3249 so my understanding was that I needed to download 6421 drivers and then disable, delete and re-enable etc.

Have downloaded files from VIA technologies but:

a) there are so may files in the RAR I don't know which to install
b) when I try set up.exe my PC just generates the above error message which is followed by other messages before I have to abort installation.

Gist is that I still have 3249.

Bit desperate now. Can anyone advise.

Many thanks

Tony

again, you really need to search. You don't install any drivers. You use what JF has. This the most common thing in flashing a drive. Read the ultimate sticky.

We have a prog over over called Ello Ello. In it the main character always says in French accent: "I vill say this only vunce" but for your benefit here goes:

The JF refers explicitly to disabling drive, deleting drivers and re-enabling drive etc. This I did and now have the appropriate yellow icon next to my driver. The only problem is that my card is described in device manager as 3249 rather than 6421-still listening? The JF tut goes on to say that you need todownload the 6421 drivers from the link, install those, reboot and then disbale, delete, re-enable etc.The problem is that I can't temporarily install the 6421 driver because of this error message.

Maybe one of the grown ups will clarify:

1. The difference between 3249 and 6421 chipset.
2. Why I'm getting this message when trying to install the 6421 driver.

I can't imagine that would matter. All that is required is that you use a VIA chipset. You do NOT install any drivers. If you have what you say above, that part is good. I guess we need more information at this point to see what is not working?

All the tuts I've seen specifically say use 6421.

Am I the only person using Vista 32 bit trying to flash a drive?

Am I the only one having this issue?

Surely there must be a diagnosis and a workaround.

Hi

Gave up hope of resolving the VIA versus Vista issue so just hooked everything up and switched PC on.

No I get message saying "Press Tab Key into User Window"!! Nothing seems to respond, especially the tab key.

Have googled and realise it's something to do with SATA connection to the DVD Drive and Mode B etc.

Really desperate now. Any help would be much appreciated as son's birthday is in two weeks time and clock is ticking.
