This is the jailbreak stick that I purchased for the PS3: http://priceangels.com/Direct_USB_PS_Jai...1.1__p9132.html

It works perfectly. I have not had an issue playing my backups. However, after backing up NBA 2k11, there was a problem (the controller isn't recognized). I saw that this is a common problem and to rectify it, I need to install the latest Open Manager, or at least 1.1. I'm currently on 1.0.

My question is, how do I install the latest version? If I download the .pkg from here: http://dukio.com/ps3-jailbreak/downloads...ource-code.html

how do I get it on the PS3? If I put it on a random USB stick, the PS3 won't recognize the file, regardless if I have my jailbreak running. If I put the .pkg in a folder, the PS3 still doesn't recognize it.

So, yeah, how do I put the pkg file on the PS3? I'm sorry for the newb question, but this is the first issue that I've run into.

Thanks!

When you say that it should be placed in the root of the USB device, you mean like:

F:\open manager.pkg

Where "F" is the drive?

Finally, should it be on any regular USB drive or should it be the USB drive that has the jailbreak (like the one I linked above: http://priceangels.com/Direct_USB_PS_Jai...1.1__p9132.html)?

Please let me know. I'm eager to see if NBA 2K11 works.

any usb thumb drive, put it in the root.
the main page of the drive.

boot your device, and go to the GAME/ install pkg files, it should be there.

The PS3 still isn't recognizing the file :( I booted the PS3 with the USB stick in, but that didn't help.

With the jailbreak running, when I insert the second USB stick with the new pkg file, the PS3 will only recognize the original backup manager pkg on the jailbreak dongle--NOT the secondary USB stick with the new pkg file.

Do anyone have any other ideas?

is your usb stick formatted to FAT32? It needs to be Fat32 for the ps3 to recognize it

Indeed it is.

The PS3 recognizes the stick, just not the pkg file. For example, if I have three folders on the stick (Movies, Music, PS3), I'll see those folders. If I'm in video in the XMB, I'll see the contents of the movies folder.

However, even if I place the pkg file in the root directory of the USB stick, the PS3 doesn't see it; nor does the PS3 see it even if I place it in the PS3 folder on the USB stick (which I know it shouldn't).

So, yeah, I'm still stuck. The PS3 is not seeing the pkg file when it's in the root directory of the USB stick.

It's quite infuriating.

Thats really strange, I cant see why it wouldn't recognize it. Maybe your .pkg is corrupt try redownloading it and also if I was you id reformat the whole USB stick using FAT32format you can get it here for free http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard...T32format.shtml

So when you go to the XMB to the GAME section,
do you see the "install Package Files" icon?

see pics.

pics are from top to bottom. in the GAME section of the XMB

you must install from the "Install Package files" area.
if the package is in your root usb stick, it will show up here.

if you dont have these options, I cant help you. since I have a ps3break not a jailbreak.

in order to see these options you must boot your ps3 with your jailbreak device active.

make sure the package files has the ext .PKG if it doesnt then it wont be found.
i.e. "Open manager V1.14.3.pkg"

this is all I can do for you.

The icons will not appear as shown since it is part of my theme on my ps3.
but look for the folder name.

I think you might be trying to load the files in a open mgr folder, not the pkg file itself. since this is a open program some have all the files in a folder not in a single pgk file.

if this the case find another file on the net make sure it is only one file, not a folder of files.!

You can also try unplugging your jailbreak after it boots and plugging your usb in that slot and see if it works that way.

First, thanks everyone for helping out! It's much appreciated.

Good news and bad news...

I did that too. I even did the slow format, just in case the quick formatting wasn't doing the job.

Thanks again for the detailed response. All the things you list I do have, and things are where they should be (e.g. Install package files). My jailbreak is functioning as it should.

The good news is I finally have the latest version of Open Manager installed! So what exactly happened? The two sources that I downloaded from kept linking the same pkg file. They were the same pkgs that I currently had installed, which is why the last two times I tried to install the pkg the PS3 was saying it's already installed! Duh.

So, yeah, I'm a total jackass. I should have paid more attention to the file names that the websites were producing.

The bad news? NBA 2K11 still isn't working lol. That was the whole reason for all this. Allegedly, you're supposed to run open manager in patch mode to get NBA 2K11 to work, but it's still not.

Regardless, I have the latest open manager installed. Thanks again for all the help everyone!

Nah think of it this way, your mistakes creates information to help others not repeat what you have done. and instead learn without failure and frustrastion, thats why the forums are around, to provide information on things and problems that arent easily fixed.

ps. I always rename the files just so I know what Im looking for when they come up.
so I didnt think about that being the problem. force of habit.
