Power light blinking on shutdown

On some consoles I've seen when you go to turn the system off sometimes it will stay on, the fans slow down some and the power light in the middle will blink slowly and it finally shuts off after about 10-15 seconds. Not all systems do this but I have seen it more than once.

Why does it do this? Is this some method that microsoft uses to cool the system down gradually after a gaming session or does it indicate some sort of fault/potential future error?

I often wondered this myself. I've searched numerous forums to no avail. I thought maybe it was some kind of check to see if a drive's firmware was modified, but it happens on my legit console all of the time. Can anyone shed some light on this topic for us?

That typically happens on the Xenons from what I have seen. System shuts off with the fans still running and then they eventually shutdown. I don't think I've seen that on newer boards. Back in 2005 when the RROD arose, I think they release a update to try and help the problem. They thought that making a better cooldown would help. This would be in the nand of course. Then we all obviously found out, it didn't work LOL.
