So I've been thinking of buying a ps3 since the whole jailbreak scene started, but I can't find any decent deals on one. The problem with waiting for a good deal is I have no idea when sony is going to start shipping out ps3's with the new firmware to block the jailbreak. Anyone have an idea about that? Cause I might end up waiting until black friday when they'll probably have a decent deal somewhere before I get one.
Anyone have suggestions? Should I buy at full price now or wait? And does anyone know if sony would ship ps3s with the new firmware by black friday or sometime after that?
Sony most likely is already shipping them out with the upcoming new bundles! So the time to buy a new ps3 is right now, asap!
Teh 250 and 120gb versions will most likely have below 3.40, currently the 320 and 160gb have 3.40, but as more ppl buy their numbers will reduce and all you'll be able to buy are consoles with 3.50 on them.
I am guessing sony are already shipping with unjailbreakable fw, so the longer you wait the less chance of getting a jb ps3.

Where'd you get one for $229? If I decide to get one, it'll probably be a refurb 120gb from microcenter. It'll come out to a little more than I'd like..but it'd be worth it in the end.
I got a teensy 2.0. I have no idea what the difference is between the others, it was just the cheapest. Now I just have to figure out how to get it to work..
edit: Has any else gotten refurbed stuff from microcenter before? And how reliable are they, in terms of refurb quality? I might stop by and get one tomorrow.
The best probably would bee a teensy or the atmel usb dev board, first of all most people got these, and second they are designed for any code, so you should be able to use it for a lot of others things, if you like programming stuff.
Downside on these 2 are they do not have a housing, plastic cover. If you want a plastic cover then it seems it's one of three dongles
i) PS3Yes (I have this one)
ii) PS3Key (apparently made by same people as wiikey)
iii) PS3Break (you'll want the 1.1 version and careful of clones)
PS3yes seem to be the one which updates the most frequently.
PS3Key do update theirs but are a lot slower at releasing
PS3Break, idk I've only heard of the 1.1 upgrade.
All other dongles do the same stuff but you dont hear about any updates to keep up with psgroove. So I say it's either i or ii from above.
Is microcenter a second hand store? If so you wanna be more careful with them than with retail stores. Afterall we've seen lots of kids updating their ps3 to 3.42 or 3.50 and unable to use these dongles. So in a few cases I'm sure they have sold their console to secondhand store then bought a new one with 3.40 on it so they can use teh dongles.
Easier to return stuff to a retail store than a second hand one.
Thanks I'm placing the order right now
Microcenter is more into Computers similar to Compusa or Frys but they also sale games and give you more for trade ins than Gamestop.
@bigo93
You bring up a good point in people reselling their old ps3s, but I figure I could probably ask what their return policy is before I buy one and if I can return it, I'll get one, check the firmware and return if need be.
So I got my ps3 and I updated it to 3.41. I think I got everything working. I only tried Enslaved for a couple minutes cause it was the fastest to transfer to my external hdd. I'm pretty excited to try other games but I don't have the time to now. Anyone know the difference between the regular backup manager and open manager? Is open manager the one where you can play games without a disc in the ps3?
