I live here in China so I get to see piracy up close and fast before most people. I have started to notice that most of the game shops here are now selling burnt ps3 games on DVD's for dirt cheap of course. What I have noticed is that the games are split into several dvds for example: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is being sold for 10rmb ($1.50) and the game is cut into 2 dvd's. You can check out these pirated games being sold on a this popular Chinese website http://s.taobao.com/search?q=ps3+jailbreak+%D3%CE%CF%B7 , the site is in Chinese but you can translate the page with google if need be. Anyway I haven't heard of this process being done with splitting, has anyone else? I have yet to buy any of these games to check it out, but I guess I will soon as the curiosity is killing me. They are also selling some of the games on BD-R media but that's a little more expensive like 40rmb($6.00).....Ill keep you posted on my trials.
For example a 7 gbiso. Open hjsplit -> split -> select input and outout -> 4450 MB file size (for a single layer DVD) -> start
When needed you can join the file and use it!
It is a very handy way to keep archives in a cheap way.
It's not for archive it is to play the games on the PS3, I know how to split games, I'm just wondering if splitting them can still make it work properly on the PS3? Thanks for the details though

This is what I am saying...
They obviously zip the ripped game and they get one zipped file. Then they split it in two or more DVDs. When you buy these DVDs, you join the files -> get the ziped file -> you unzip it -> transfer it in internal or external ps3 hdd ... and that's it...
This is what I think they do because I do the same...
No that's not it at all. You play the games via the dvd in backup manager, you don't install it to the external or the internal. You just play straight from the dvd

... and then what... it asks you to insert the 2nd dvd when necessary ????
Ok then... buy a game test it and tell us... they might have found a way to play backups that none of us know.
