Hi
Just about to continue existing my old thread but it has been closed (not my responsibility)
I can?t resist posting this as I know it will give Modking something to talk about in Kindergarten on Monday. Having given up on every species of VIA PCI-SATA controller to ever work with Vista 32 bit I?m finally going to create an XP partition and run JF from there.
Before doing this I decided to give good ole Vista one last chance so tried an internal SATA port (couldn?t use the Primary as that was tied up).
Yet another species of error this time. I was using Win API but just could not get the drive into mode B. Predictably when I tried the audio unlock I got ?Failed to play 79 unlock audio CD? instead of last weeks ?RAM Execute Command Failed?.
You got to admit that there?s enough material here for a hair splitter?s convention for a fortnight!! Is there any reason why I can get Mode B using the SATA card but get the Failed RAM Execute Command then not get mode B with the internal SATA.
Just out of interest:
? Can you use internal SATA with port IO instead of Win API? (I couldn?t find a way of doing this)
? Can you swap internal SATA connections around without any risk? I mean creating a space in the primary SATA for this task?
Sorry-Drive is Hitachi 79

Sorry apologies for that comment.
I'm using a CK3 Connectivity kit to provide power for my Hitachi V79. I have had a shedful of problems with VIA card as Vista 32 bit seems to install 3249 driver even though the card is clearly 6241.I know about disabling, deleting driver and re-enabling drive etc etc etc etc but doing this with 3249 props generates the "Failed to Execute RAM Command" message when running the audio CD. I have also downloaded 6241 drivers from VIA site but they will not install (String product not found in string table...).
I wanted to try my only available internal SATA which is probably 3 or 4 but when I hook everything up I can't get the drive into mode B and then I get the "Failed to play unlock audio CD" message as described above.
I will reiterate my questions here:
1. Is there any reason for the internal SATA not being able to get the drive into mode B when at least the SATA card managed to do this? (before failing the RAM upload)
2. Can I swap my internal SATA connections around so that I can at least try the drive with the primary SATA connection? (currently being used by something else)
3. Should you be abale to use internal SATA with Win API or Port IO?
Many thanks

I know its not what you want to hear, but just give up and get XP installed. You can always try to get in mode b with the SLAX CD as a last shot but I personally would be worried about messing up my drive.

Thanks
I didn't really know I was the only one in the Western Hemisphere trying to flash using Vista. If I'm not I guess the others have all installed XP now.
