Here's what to do if you are in germany, buy a Prankster AVR from Ozmods, its a legal product which happens to be exactly the same as a jailbreaking dongle, ts not their fault if you "accidentally" flash it with psgroove ;)
This is over the top really, this shouts out that the german government has taken bribes from sony in order to undertake such actions!
This is just a hit and miss thing as sony lawyers will most definitely not go to court because of people not signing this letter. It's a method long used in Germany by lawyers to rip off filesharing users. The penalty fee is so high to scare people off, so they sign the letter. Mostly those letters come with a very short deadline (3 days to less than a week) and some people are scared enough because of the high penalty fee to sign these letters, send them back and throw the PS3 dongle into the trash without informing themselves. In filesharing those letters also contain a relatively small compensation fee (around 1000 Euro) compared to the amount in dispute these lawyers threaten with (around 50.000 to 100.000 Euros, which is used for calculating the lawyer's fee, the court fees and so on).

I think it depens on how far you go with privacy of correspondence. I wouldn't think of the adress and advertising prints on the packaging as part of it because it is visible to the public. I don't actually know if this way of acquisition is legal, if they had started sending advertisements to these adresses it would surely have been illegal. Also the device itself is legal in Germany as long as you have to modify it to circumvent the copy protection. I think in the future some suppliers will start selling unflashed devices and allow downloading the needed software from their websites. Even modchips are legal in Germany, as long as you don't use them. It's legal to posess one.
This could even backfire heavily if someone had the balls to accuse the Sony lawyers of difamation, maybe even coercion.
