So in theory this should be a simple question. I have formatted my WD to FAT32, put files in the VIDEO folder, plugged it into my PS3. It recognizes the WD, the folders, and the files but it says the files are not supported. My questions is that they are AVI and I have other AVI files on my PS3 so why don't the ones on my WD work?

I feel like the answer is right in-front of me but I am new to all of this tech stuff.

That is odd, try transferring one avi movie to the PS3 hardrive and see if it plays. if not then maybe it's the way it encoded.

You could try to reformat again and see if this works. BTW I have WD portable HD as well and I have no issues.

The PS3 only supports ~20% of the AVI files I have. Try putting a few MPG files on the drive to see if you have the same issues.

20% are you kidding me? My PC is 6TB and a good 80% of that is avi's I think I have only had 1 or 2 problems with avi's not working using TVersity to stream them

It is all about the codec; the PS3 does not support any of the efficient codecs. AVI is just a container.

dont recode use Tversity and see if that works, and then you can even avoid using the usb drive and not worry about Fat32's 4gb limit
