I cant get this damned program to work! it wont load my iXtreme .bin file. i get the same error every time. "A valid firmware source was not selected only non-patched firmwares can be used" I've tried it with the benq iXtreme 1.2 and 1.6 and the hitachi 1.5 I got the same error ever time. Does anybody know how to use iPred because I sure don't. Thanks in advance :)

When I do that it restarts iprep and then opens a cmd window with a popup that say "illegal operation...." This has happened twice.

Ok I figured out how to do that but it still doesn't work :( I no longer get the cmd window but now under source firmware Samsung iXtreme is greyed out. I'm not sure what this means.

use the 360mod disc. its been awhile since i used it but i think it was wrote by frosty and it boots and has step by step for every drive type. make sure you have a usb drive plugged in so it will have a place to save your firmware backup.

Thanks, I actually think I'm going to try the 360mod USB version because I don't have any CDs on hand.

thats an even better idea. been so long since i used the disc that i forgot they made a usb version of it. Good luck!

Hey maybe you could help me with this; when I use the modusb I get to the part where it starts scanning for the drive to respond, the numbers start changing and I disconnect the drive and the numbers stop. I wait 5 seconds like it says and reconnect the drive then the numbers just start moving again. I know I'm using the right port because when I tried my other 3 the numbers didn't move to begin with. I'm trying to dump a benq drive so I can spoof and flash a hitachi.
Also I'm using an Intel ICH8 not a via, I've read around and heard that they they will work for flashing.

I think the moddisc/usb is different than other flashing utilities. it may not work with the intel chipset so it is best to check the notes that came with it for compatibility.
but spoofing a Hitachi as another drive is not recommended anyway as they usually have problems.

Of doshflash? Because that said that an ICH7 would work and ICH8 and 7 are so close that it should be fine. For the usbmod thing it only stated VIA cards and it said others might work but no promises. I'm going to try doshflash and if that doesn't work I'm going to buy a VIA card an use it in my dads tower. His tower has an ICH8 also but its set up in RAID so I can't disable that and still use windows. Also what is bad about spoofing a Hitachi?

yea i meant the usbmod may only work with via and to check notes which you did and just confirmed.
a lot of people have problems when spoofing hitachi, they are the pickiest of all the drives and have the most problems.

Excuse me, but i have one more question that I just though of, I tried using a USB to SATA bridge at first, I used the JungleUSB drivers to install the DVD drive, after I installed the drivers the DVD drive appears in the device manager with an error code. Windows will not assign it a drive letter because the error code says "the device cannot start" If its in the device manager it should have a port right? So I should be able to use jungle flasher? But JF never picks up that its connected, both my Hitachi and my Benq do this.

hmm im not sure. i haven never used a usb to sata bridge. is it possible that maybe there is a driver for that needed?

Well it helps if you had the right tool. Get the via usb to sata. Then use jungle flasher. So much easier since you kids don't know DOS

I don't have any PCMCIA ports on my laptop :'( Did you mention a via usb to sata? Meaning a usb to sata with a via chip? I know enough about DOS to make doshflash work :)

yes you can get a usb to sata adapter that will work. I've always been a aka tower fan myself just for these reasons.
