Hi there, long time reader, first time poster
I'm just now trying to get into the PS3 Jailbreak scene and i've run into a few issues that i can't quite find answers to.
1. I have someone on a 3.50 firmware. i've read tutorials on programming and installing a PIC microcontroller into a PS3 controller in order to jailbreak the system. i'm in the process of building the programmer device to try and implement this concept. Has anyone here done this? i've read a few threads where people were STILL saying there's no way to jailbreak the 3.50 firmware, so this is where i'm getting confused. i also watched a video of someone jailbreaking 3.50 with an iPod loaded with PSFreedom. does either method actually work?
2. If the controller method of jailbreaking works, is this something i have to do everytime i boot up the PS3? the iPhone jailbreaking video i watched mentioned that by using their method you would have to essentially redo the jailbreak every time. I'm trying to avoid this, so i'm hoping the controller method is a little more permanent, or at least more "plug-and-play" if you will
3. If using the controller to jailbreak, how am i able to still use flash drives and/or external hard drives on the PS3 when the 3.50 firmware supposedly disables all non-supported usb devices? i'm assuming the iPod method works because Sony didn't disable the iPods(?)
4. I bought a PS3 Break device (1.1 fw) before the 3.5 firmware problem was aware to me. Is the Hermes V4 payload the most ideal one to install to the device? i'm considering giving it to a friend, but i want to make sure i set it up for him correctly
I'm sure there's more i'd like to know that i'm leaving out, but i'll come back to this. You guys seem extremely helpful, so i'm looking forward to your insight
thanks!

The video you watched is BULLSHIT!!!! There is NO WAY at the moment at all 100% to jailbreak the PS3 on firmware 3.50 only on firmware 3.41

then what's the point of installing the PIC microcontroller into the controllers? it's discussed extensively here and at several other forums i've read

ALL Jailbreak methods, were patched with firmware 3.42, so any firmware 3.42 and above cant be Jailbroken.
PSFreedom, PSGroove and PSJailbreak, only work on firmwares 3.41 and below.

The PS3 can also be Jailbroken on 2.76, 3.01, 3.10 and 3.15

I would really love for someone to make a 3.41 restorer so all these questions about 3.50 jailbreaking can be put to rest with a sticky.

I have a question regarding the jailbreaking. I have an htc incredible so I went to ps3-hacks.com. downloaded their psgroove that was recommended for the phone followed the instructions. And now I have the 2 folders on the ps3 but no backup manager. I tried taking back up manager putting it on the sd card and transfering it over. But its not happening. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

You need to put the Backup manager on a thumbdrive.

I can just put it right on my usb flash drive? Or is there a special way of putting it on there? And can I install other homebrew programs this way?

That should work, just make sure the drive is FAT32 and all the PKG's are on root.

Download the .pkg file and drag and drop it into your flashdrive, do not put it in a folder.

I belive that currently you must plug it in every time, the substitute would have to be one of the dongles that have been flashed with Hermes hex, or something similar.
