You've probably read about the Fable 3 issue. Here's my experience with the new Kinect beta dashboard installed: -

1. Fable 3 is recognised by the 360, installs, but when I try and boot it, it says "This disc is unreadable".

2. Each time I try to boot Fable 3, it will corrupt my gamertag. (EDIT - This is confirmed to happen when booting ANY backup, not just Fable 3.) The gamertag will still work on my flashed console, but if I try and use it on another console it shows up as corrupt and I have to recover it from Live.

3. Most importantly, after booting Fable 3 and checking my console details with XVal 2.0, it says "Failed AP25 Challenge", so I'm flagged for a ban.

What is AP25 referring to? This: -

Quote:
Those who have ever looked into the depths of the Xbox360 disc authentication scheme know that a ?new? type of disc authentication has been in the works since the Xbox360 was released. It is known as the AntiPiracy v2.5 checks, or AP2.5.

Full article HERE.

Why is it not affecting everyone that's using the Kinect dashboard? Because: -

Quote:
<+c4eva> not all drives support it, and they will have to make sure all drives that do support give back reliable results! not as easy as it sounds!

Others on Xbox-Scene are now reporting the same gamertag corruption and AP25 ban flag.

It's not looking good, as the evidence is now starting to point to new copy protection rather than a bad rip of the game and/or some kind of bug in the beta dashboard.

Do we know if the copy of fable 3 has L1 in 2 places? we know it is meant to be in only one correct place on the disc and LT can read that. but since older fw looks for it else where some games are still be ripped and injected L1 in two places which could be a flag. so im wondering if that is the case with fable 3 and maybe it is the first game that this check is occurring on.

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Well the game that peeps have burned works on pre-beta dashes but spits out the error on the new 12*** ones.

Exact same disc, one dash loads the other one doesn't.

New protection on its way..

well some people with the new dash say it can load and some say it cant.

then there is the guy with the newest dash that has a retial copy of fable 3 and it works, he ripped it himself and it works too he says. I would imagine he did not run it thru abgx or anything else since he ripped it himself. this would mean that there hasn ot been any additional splitvid injected into it. which could be why it oots.

IF MS knows that a lot of pirated games have additional splitvid in them and they make a dash protection that can read splitvid L1 in the wrong place on the disc then BAM. that would explain why some people can load and some cant.

AP25 only works with certain drives according to c4e, which would explain why the game works for some people and not others.

If it was some kind of issue with split-vid, then that particular rip of the game would fail to boot for anyone running the Kinect beta dashboard, but it doesn't.

Also, if split-vid was the issue, then this wouldn't only affect Fable 3. I have games with and without split-vid, but it doesn't bother me cos I only play copies offline. Every game I've tested boots on the Kinect dashboard, no matter the status of split-vid, with Fable 3 being the only exception.

what if the ones that are booting have the correct form of splitvid. as in the L1 is only in the L1 where it is on retail. remember older fw ixtreme used to require L1 to be in a different area of the disc other than an official retail copy. so the disc ends up having an additional L1 area. LT removed the need for his by making it behave as orig fw does and there was no more need to place L1. if some people are running abgx with option to add the L1 where it isn't needed it could cause the issue. or certain rips might have it already before download.

just a theory

this would explain why the person with the retail copy can boot it and the rip he made. he said he used 0800 fw which makes a 1:1 copy, if he did not run thru abgx or anything else then it would still be a 1:1 copy.

sry realized i was double posting after i had already hit the button

Either that, or he has one of those unaffected drives. Does anyone know what drives these are yet? There must be a reason M$ is pushing all these LO 9x drives out.

someone on xs was reporting that they were getting profile corruption from other games after getting the fable 3 error. does this mean that all the signed content on the drive including saves are being corrupted?

Bad times.

Don't think its the end though, C4A, Team Jungle & Team Xecutor will come up with a solution.

This is actually worse than I thought. If you play ANY backup on a flashed 360 running the Kinect dashboard, it will corrupt your gamertag so you can't sign into Live on another console. It's not just Fable 3 that causes the corruption. Clearly the dashboard update implements new security that can detect when backups are being booted. Fable 3 is still the only game that won't boot for now though.

It also doesn't matter if your offline console is banned or unbanned. It's not like the previous ban wave where you had to connect to Live to get banned, then it would cause issues with data corruption and game installs. The only way to hide from this at the moment is to stay offline and to stay on the NXE dashboard.

@Stealth
I have a question regarding splitvid. I've LT and fully verify all my games, making sure they're ssv2 and have splitvid. I understand if a wave 3,4,5 or 6 game is ripped with a drive without 0800 firmware, the iso will be ssv1 instead of ssv2 and it will have to be changed via ABGX. You said splitvid doesn't need to be applied if the game is ripped with a 0800 fw drive. Some of the isos I've downloaded were already ssv2 eg. Halo Reach and New Vegas, meaning they must have been ripped with 0800 drives. I applied splitvid to both of those games anyway. So was there a need to apply splitvid at all to those games? If your theory about splitvid is true, then those games would not boot if I updated to the next dash. I don't think I'll risk it though because I play most games offline anyway.

If the new dashboard does add new protection, M$ could easily put it on to every new game disc making it a mandatory update for the game to be bootable. This is what Sony are doing to battle the PSJailbreak. PS3 MOH came with a new update that removed the loop hole and the game wasn't playable unless the console was updated. If M$ can do that, it might be game over, both online and off.

Unless they make this a type of 'update or no boot', I don't see all the doom and gloom.

Great timing in coming over here. I've been playing offline since last Novemeber when the Banhammer started going down last year and I updated my firmware a couple of months ago. I was considering to go online so I could import my Rockband 2 tracks from my original disc but came over here to check if anything was up with the scene lately. I can wait to play Kinect or just get a new 360 mine is 3 1/2 years old and freezes all the time so I'm up for a new one anyways.

there will be a new fw to counter this update i hope anyway!!
i recon there will still be a ban wave if the dash can detect you using backups then i guess it can detect LT also.
M$ count on us using custom fw so when we do get banned in november every year there post cod/pre xmas sales go through the roof.
if they realy wanted to stop us using backups why dont they just release a firmware update every now and then on new titles and live!!
why???
because the more bans they get the more $$$$$$ in the pocket of M$.
simple
i guess it will be time to crack out the old soldering iron soon
one last thing it is possible to uncorrupt your gamer tag with con flag remover
you just have to do it after every time you use profile on your moded updated xbox.
it would be a pain in the ass but possible.
so heres to November everyone.

Would it be possible for them to take the next step and include a mandatory dashboard update with new games?

@infam0us - It doesn't corrupt your hard drive. Your gamertag will still work fine on the flashed console too. It's when you move your gamertag to a different console that it will show that it's corrupted.

After further testing, this happens when booting any game on an affected console, including originals. Also, if you create a new gamertag on the affected console after it was affected, it'll work just fine, but if you move that gamertag to another console it'll show as corrupt, whether you've booted any games or not.

I already have a banned console with BenQ drive. I have the first leaked release of the BETA dashboard. I tried booting Fable 3 last night and it would boot to the game. I haven't tried any others and I have no intention of updating my banned console. Being banned my saves and profile will already go corrupt, have to use the con flag remover and hash calc to uncorrupt it.

But I presume you can still use con flag remover and the hash block calculator to uncorrupt.

I was saying this awhile back. I updated my banned console and my flagged as soon as the dash was leaked and everything was corrupted when moved between them. When I used con flag remover and hash block calculator to uncorrupt my profile I found everything on the profile was still corrupted so I had to do it on every item in the profile.

I think as long as we still have the good old trusty jtagable boxes around and people are able to read the logs, we will be fine. But things are definitely going to be different, you can bet on that.
