Hey guys,

I've had a look through as much of the posts on this site as can, as well as many from other sites on burning games, but none seem to address my issues. Basically, I got my console modded at some shop, and I used to buy games for $10 from some guy, but he has gone overseas so now I need to burn my own games. Ive given this a go, using verb discs, but it didnt work. As it was modded by someone else, i really know nothing about the mod and in general im pretty newb to all this.

All i have to do to play a burnt game is put it in. No boot up discs or whatever else ive been reading about. I only burnt games offline, if i want to play on Live i buy the real copy, so im not banned.

I download games from torrents. im not really sure what my dvd drive is, it says super writemaster on the front, it is dual layer though.

There's all this terminology that im not used to( like layerbreak, agbx, patching of games, wave 1,2,3 ..) and im usually a fast learner when it comes to technology but i cant seem to get a handle of it haha. So if someone could point me in the right direction (maybe ive missed a good tutorial post?) it would be greatly appreciated.

Ive been trying to work this out for over a year on and off and have been failing pathetically haha so hopefully I've given you enough info to help me.
Thanks in advance.

What happens when you insert the disk in to your xbox?

What firmware is your DVD flashed to?

All you need to do is download game > run though ABGX > burn .dvd file

Make sure your burner has the latest firmware installed. Run the game through abgx360 to make sure it checks out. Install ImgBurn and associate .dvd files with it. Double-click the .dvd file that comes with the game, which will launch ImgBurn. Make sure the "Verify" box is checked in ImgBurn (it should be checked by default). Make sure the booktype is set to DVD-ROM (you don't need to do this with most drives as it's done automatically, but you can do it manually in ImgBurn). Insert blank disc, burn and verify.

If the disc burns, verifies and has the correct booktype, then it should work in your console.

If older games work and newer games don't, it could be that your drive is flashed with firmware that can't boot the latest games because of the video wave. The solution to that is either to patch the games to an earlier video wave (not really recommended) or update to a newer firmware.

As for the terminology: -

Layerbreak = The discs are dual layer. The layerbreak is where the data is split between the layers. With Xbox 360 games, the layer break is always 1913760. The .dvd file sets the layerbreak to 1913760 for you.

abgx360 = The program used to check games.

Wave 1, 2, 3 etc. = Every 360 game disc has a video partition on it which contains a video that displays "To play this game put it into an Xbox 360 console" in various languages. The video partition may also contain a folder called $SystemUpdate which contains a dashboard update. The waves are just the different versions of these video partitions. There's 6 known waves at the moment.

No offence, but that guide isn't very good. It says to open the .DVD file and copy and paste the layerbreak info into ImgBurn. That's pointless. The .DVD file sets the layerbreak for you. Also, for setting the booktype, it says to go to the LG tab. What if your burner isn't made by LG?

With most modern burners, all you need to do is associate .DVD files with ImgBurn, then you can double-click the .DVD file, ImgBurn will fire up and you can burn your game. The layerbreak is set by the .DVD file, which also tells ImgBurn the name of the ISO being burned. Booktype setting is done by ImgBurn too in many cases.

Awesome, thanks for your answers. I'll give it a try on the weekend, or maybe later today and report back. One Question, why is it not recommended to patch the games to an earlier video wave?

I dont know what flashed means haha. If you mean do i have the latest firmware on my burner, then, I'm not sure, i'll google it later.

One other thing i read on these forums was that you need DVD+R. I know I used DVD-R, maybe that was my problem?

The tutorial is NOT mine. I found it in some dude's website. But it's still helpful to me or the others... I figured hard to burn a Xbox 360 game.
1st time I burned using .DVD without the tutorial. It didn't work.
2nd time I burned using .ISO without the tutorial. It still didn't work.
3rd time I burned following the tutorial. It friggin' worked.

So, hey. Don't blame me. I'm just following some dude's tutorial. Blame the dude. Not me. OK?

Dude, everyone knows modchips are F-ing useless. The new way is flash. Much better, faster, and (kinda) safe. Flash is better than placing some chip in that Xbox. Blame the info, not me.
