Wasn't really sure how to put it in words in the title but pretty much what I'm asking is, with the flashed firmware on the DVD drive, am I able to install a bought game to the harddrive and then burn the "image" or whatever to a single layer disc (since I do not have dual layers at the moment) and play the game on the harddrive? Or does the xbox check for the whole file on the disc?

Installing a retail disc onto the HDD, then playing the game with a burnt disc inside with a flashed drive, yes that will work.
Edit: Sorry I am wrong. Check the comment below.

Checks the whole thing. It also needs to be the same disc as you installed with.

Ahh oh well. Thanks for the replies! Also, I've read many different things on this but are you able to play ALL original xbox games now that my DVD drive is flashed? Or is it just what's supported and what isn't? And does it have to be burned onto a dual layer disc if I have a HITACHI (cant remember exact model) drive?

Only what is supported. Actually, I don't even KNOW if it lets you play xbox original backups.. wait for someone else more knowledgeable to reply.

hoooolyyyyy, if you read the first sentence.... "Wasn't really sure how to put it in words in the title"
If you have a suggestion on how to put it in a short sentence, then it would be greatly appreciated but I'm afraid what you just posted doesn't help me at all.

Maybe I didn't explain well enough. I don't have dual layer discs so I obviously cannot try which is why I thought I'd ask before wasting a DVD. What I was trying to get across was can I burn just part of the file onto a SINGLE layer disc, so that it passes the disc check then allows me to play the game installed on my harddrive. It was already answered no, so alright. My SECOND question was am I able to play ALL original xbox games if I burn them a certain way, as I've read somewhere before.
I'm completely new to this flashed firmware stuff give me a break...

Also I did not know it needed to be the same disc. My mistake.

The last time I looked into it about 6 mths ago, to play back-ups of old Xbox games you have to burn them to a dual layer (not sure how), and you need a certain version of old non-stealth firmware.
Don't worry about modking, he's been an ass lately.

You can play copies of original xbox games on latest firmware, just need to be proper rips (not modded) and burned correctly.
You can burn them on DVD5's (Single layer) if you have a Samsung drive running old extreme firmware

Oh alright, thanks brooksonj and miketrev! And everyone else too! (Other than modking, of course) Guess I'll just have to go out and buy some dual layer discs. Oh well.

once you have a game installed onto your hard drive. you can use a different copy´s of the game it doesnt have to be the exact disc you installed with but it has to be a full dual layer copy.

I had replied to this previously but didn't correctly read the above message (basically posting an unrelated answer). So my gibberish has been removed and, for those who read my message, my apology remains.
