I bought my PS3 like four years ago and I can't even play actual PS3 games on it because of my crappy SDTV. I can't read onscreen text and menus in most new games, and the contrast balance is shit too. I can't afford a new TV and I'm tired of playing PS1 games when I paid $400 to be able to play new games. :\
How can I hook up the system to my computer monitor? I know I'll need to buy an adaptor or cable but I've read about a few different options and I don't know what will actually work and what won't. I also obviously need the sound to work too.
I only have basic tech knowledge, so even though I've been Googling this, I keep coming across discussions about adaptors and ports and the number of pins on certain connectors ... sorry, but I don't know enough to understand that information.
I have a VGA monitor, and it has built in speakers. If you need more info, ask.
Link me to what I need to buy. Online shops need to ship to Canada and I don't want to buy from Asia (last time I did that, customs held the package for 3 months). I don't have a lot of money, so something under $30 would be great. A physical store in southern Ontario that sells what I need would be even better.
you can either get an hdmi to vga box or a component to vga box (cheaper but still very good quality), and purchase a component ps3 cable (the one with 5 ends, 3 for pics, 2 for sound)
component cables can support 1080p too
but that mostly depends on ur monitor
We keep seeing this problem...it seems like everyone who tries the component method ends up getting a new screen anyway because of the low picture quality. As for the alternative, the converter boxes tend to cost as much as a new screen, and they don't have HDCP support, so most games drop the resolution automatically or refuse to display all together.
LCD screens are cheap...real cheap. I know this isn't the answer you want, but you are better off getting a new screen that comes with DVI or HDMI inputs, and which has HDCP support. The cost will be about the same, the quality will be better, and you will have a better screen for your PC as a bonus.
The best resolution that any VGA box supports is just 1080i (a little less than 720P)...because that is all the component standard supports.
Here in the US, you can get a 21.5" 5MS 1080P PC screen for $140 shipped. Compare that with a $200 HDMI adapter box with no HDCP support, and you might see why I advocate getting a new screen.
I've done a lot of research into this, and asked on a few other forums as well. I've decided that the most practical option would be to buy either a new monitor or a small LCD TV which I will use only for gaming.
The reason I'm not going with a VGA box or adapter is not so much because of picture quality, but I keep reading about people who have bought things that end up not working at all. I'd rather save up and spend $150 for something that -will- work, instead of repeatedly buying things that work poorly or not at all.
our local stores sell 23" full hd lcd monitors (not tvs) at 300eur! (which make it $400ish right?)
yea our prices sux :/
i was thinking of getting a 42' plasma to avoid lcd blurness /ghosts but thats like almost a 1000eur! so i'm stuck with a 20' tft
Yeah...our local stores rape you too. The local bestbuy still sells 2GB MicroSD cards for $25 with no adapters or anything! That is why I buy so much online.
