I successfully modded my wii a few weeks ago and Im feeling brave so gonna try and flash my 360. Ive been reading the forums and I had a few quick questions before I get started. Do I need both the 6421A PCI card and the xecuter connectivity kit? I was a little unsure if the xecuter kit serves the same purpose as the 6421A PCI card. I heard you only need the xecuter kit if you have one of those new Liteon drives. I noticed there are 3 different versions of the xecuter kit. I think the blaster CK3 is the latest one, is it worth the extra money and what features does it have that makes it better? Some people are claiming you can flash with a USB. This sounds much easier and Im wondering if you really can. It would be nice if I can do this like the wii and not have to open the console or remove the drive.
no matter what you need the sata card which is the via6421a you speak of. it is possible to do with other sata chipsets but the via is the most used.
depending on the type of drive in your 360 is what decides what other tools you need. some drives require a probe and some do not. most all new ones do need a probe.
no matter what you need to open the console and take the drive out. when people talk about using a usb they are using it in the PC not the 360
give us some more info on the 360 you have, is it an older one or a new slim?
the best thing you can do right now is to download the jungleflasher tutorial and read it. it will clear up a lot of your questions and put into perspective how this all works.
My xbox was manufactured june 2008, it has yellow wires so I think its a Liteon. I already downloaded the jungleflasher and browsed through the tutorial. Its quite long 180 pages, Im pretty sure the information Im looking for can be condensed to a few sentences. Im experienced with computers and have flashed my motherboard and SSD so I dont think I will have much trouble. I think I understand the basics, let me know if Im missing any steps.
install via6421a in computer
plug 360 drive in to card with SATA cable
extract drive key and make backup with jungleflasher
flash the drive with new key
done?
pretty much yes, im going to assume you have a 7xxx series liteon based on the manufacture date. (but could be an 8 series maybe) with a 7 series you need the probe and connectivity kit most likely. if you have the newest jungleflasher tutorial then just select the drive type and it will skip all steps for other drives as you dont need to read all of those.
best bet now is just to take the 360 apart and see exactly which drive you have and go from there.
Got my case open but cant get any further till I get a T10 screwdriver. Gonna have to wait a few days before it arrives. In the mean time I was debating ordering that xecuter CK3 PRO and probe too. But unfortunately I still dont understand what these pieces do. So far I know they allow me to flash the new Liteon drives, and it powers my DVD drive without the power brick. But I have a feeling it does more than Im aware of. While reading I came across some other features. B mode, vendor mode, and the ability to transfer files from the 360 HD to the PC.
Couple questions......
- What is B and vendor mode for?
- Transfer from your 360 HD to your PC, is this for extracting media or working purposes?
- Does that work the other way around too, PC to 360 HD?
- Can we play games off internal or external HD yet?
