do the lack of 'compatibilty' or ability to run certain games come from the usb dongle's make (different brands) or from the application we are using to create/load backups and/or hermes versions and such?

Different dongles have different updates...many of them work with PL3 (the most game-compatible update), while others do not. Also, some of them only have outdated versions of PL3 available.

Problems also come from different backup managers...I keep three different backup managers, and I can usually get games started in at least one of them.
