I think its a great thing. Once they get all the bugs fixed to work with more games + working online dnas.

Nice for no modchip users & mod users, faster loading, quick menu pick your fav games etc.

Keep posting results!!!

can teh HD loader be backed up?

also how to play imports,

"step1: i used swap magic 2.0 cd to boot the copied hdloader.
step2: main menu booted up and i hit eject and put in swap magic2.0 dvd
step3: selected install from the menu and the sm2.0 dvd stopped spinning
step4: flip-topped in a japanese copy of gran turismo 3 a-spec

lol i told you i was being ambitious as i have not heard yet if hdloader works with japanese games on a usa console but we'll see!!

step5: 100% complete on install for 2.0 gb japanese gt3 a-spec
step6: reboot and repeat step1 but as soon as the hdloader screen with the website pops up hit eject and put in original ps2 crazy taxi

step7: select gran turismo japanese ver. from hdloader and hit play

drumroll please!!!

step8: play gran turismo from hd in other words HELL YEAH IT WORKED!!!

so if you needed to know hdloader will play japanese games when installed to the hd on a usa console!!!

now on to why gs2.0 ver1 or ver2 wont work with the trick, if you read the 1st post in the thread it clearly says that only gs2.0 ver3 or ver4 or Crazy Taxi original ps2 cd will work because they are labeled as "CRAZY TAXI" in a pc cd/dvd drive.

if you want to check to see if you have a valid hdloader swap trick disc put it in your computer and see if the label for the disc is "CRAZY TAXI" if it is then you should be golden.

heres hoping that hdloader ver2.0 will still be modeled after crazy taxi!!!

thanks for the news gents and happy gaming!!!"

I have a copy of the ownz hdloader and was wondering if anybody was able to use the swap disc and not a modchip to play the backup games. If so, could you explain to me what program you use to burn, and its methods.

Can someone tell me how long it takes to format a 120gig or 80gig HD?

Also if there a % or progression bar during format or backup of a game on the HD?

it takes seconds to foramt the HDD (so no bar required)

it takes about 5 mins for a CD based game & 15-30 mins for a DVD based game, all dependant on size (of course) - and there is a progress bar and an approximate time remaining.

For the guy who tried installing the hard drive in a PC to read after backing up games onto it, Windows cannot read the file system used by the PS2 for the hard drive but I'm pretty sure you can mount the drive into a Linux PC and read it.

PS2 - v8
Mod - Magic V
Burner - CenDyne (Pioneer) DVR-A05
Media - Anything Cheap

Gamecube w/Broadband Adapter
Phantasy Star Online
Animal Crossing Loader v1.4
Phantasy Star Uploader v1.1
Gamecube ISO Ripping Server v1.0.0.29

I suspected this too - but no-one has confirmed yet :(

either way I'm not fussed now, I was thinking of the modding possibilities.

I strongly suspect that the PS2 infact uses Linux's native file system. I say this due to the SYSTEM.CNF using the commands \cdrom0 and \hdd0 to access the devices which is consistent with how Linux addresses those devices. I also seem to remember having heard somewhere back when the 3rd party HDD tools were released that after you formatted the drive with them that you could import it into a Linux PC. If there are any Linux gurus here let me know that the command to mount a device is and I'll try it out when I get a chance.

I think it would be great if you could mount the hard drive to a Linux machine and copy games directly over from the PC. My PS2 laser is starting to die, and the read times are pretty slow when copying using HD loader. I hope someone comes up with an app!

If you read this thread from the begining, you can use a pc (ide) hard drive also, preferably maxtor/seagate up to 120 gigs.

vincy, please at least research the product a little first, visit www.hdloader.com - I am not answering any more 'lazy' questions - sorry.

BTW, I can confirm that there are no issues between using the NTSC and PAL versions of HD Loader - so (for example) if your NTSC version 'breaks' - you can use a PAL version and not have any issues with installed games :)

Just received my hdloader in the mail today (bought from eBay). I love it! Load times are reduced by 50% (worst case) to 90%! It was worth the $105 investment ($73 for Maxtor 120GB, $32 for hdloader)!

Get it fast before Sony makes suppliers stop selling it!!
