I have looked around both this forum and others and have been unable to find any posts of this problem so I apologise if this has been posted before. (I did find many similar problems, but they did not help me solve this one).

I am trying to update my console with the new system update in order to play with kinect.

So I downloaded the update from xbox.com and transferring it to a flash device's root folder. Upon putting the flash device into the xbox I am prompted that an update has been detected and to restart. Upon rebooting I get the message:

Update Required

To proceed, security and program updates are required. System updates will be added to ensure security and proper functionality. If you decline, you will be returned to the Xbox Dashboard. Do you want to accept the update?

After selecting "Yes, update now" the update begins and almost immediately I get the message:

Update Failed

Can't process the update. If the problem persits, go to www.xbox.com/support.

I get no further information regarding the nature of the error. However, If I reboot, the xbox no longer recognises a system update on the flash drive unless I delete it and add it again. I have tried clearing the cache on my hdd. Formatting the hdd. Booting the xbox whilst holding the sync button to clear any failed updates. Alternative sources of the update. And also installing the old update again incase this update was added incorrectly and was blocking the new one.

None of these things have worked and I am all out of ideas. Xbox support have been no help as they just see/hear the word update and begin to tell me how to download it.

I would appreciate any help anybody can give me and if any further information is needed just ask.

Thank you.

system updates do integrity checks on the system and all must pass before the update will complete, i do not know how old your xbox is, but you could be close to getting the RROD, i had this happen on a customers xbox before, it turned out that the GPU was loose from the board, which will not cause RROD or E74 like the CPU, it causes glitches in the video and thats about it, once i reflowed the GPU it took the update. i'm not saying this is the problem with yours, but it could be some kind of hardware failure. trying burning the update on to a disc, you may also be having an issue with the thumb drive, or just go and rent a game like ACB, it has the update on it.

First at all, thanks for your quick answer!!.
I bought it last Xmas, and I had a few failures (random red lights) from time to time. But switching it off and on again, sorted the problem :p
I already tried to update using pens, cd/dvd, an original game... Also I transfered the update to the HDD, having the same result.
Thanks again peluynati !!
