Hey i have an Xbox 360 elite from 2008. I started having disc tray issues where the games were not being read. I'd put the game in, it reads for about 20 seconds, and then i get the open tray error. Decided to try and RROD my Xbox since its still under warranty from Microsoft three year. Discovered something very interesting. After i get the Xbox all heated up and get the two red lights, if i try to load a game it works perfectly. Reads fast, doesn't freeze, no problems. As soon as it cools down i get the open tray error again. Anyone have an explanation for this? The Xbox has to be damn hot before this works.

reading issues are laser related ALWAYS. Either POT tweak or replace it.

I'm not worried about fixing it. I'm just curious as to why the xbox would work when its hot and not when it's cold. Any theories?

I actually had this problem for the first time last night. My xbox RROD like 8 times last night, and a few times I was unable to load a game and just kept trying before it eventually loaded, now that I think about it it may have been because it heated up.

if your box is rrod and you keep trying to use it the problem will only get worse and then repair wont even be an option

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Heat makes stuff expand. Theres a heating sink right under the DVD Drive.
