I want to upgrade to a 500gb hard drive what is a cool running reasonable priced drive that will work

I went with a high rated western digital 750gb on amazon for $99. You will need the space.

Ive only had it a few weeks so I cant say much, but It works great so far, Ive left my ps3 on over 24 hours a few times and have not notice excessive heating or any problems. Works plenty fast for me.

Beware some WD drives don't work well on PS3. http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/stuttering-internal-hdd-65999/
Newer WD Scorpio BPVT drives are probematic while older BEVT WD scorpio drivs might be ok.

Interesting, I probably would have go this one back when looking, but this on amazon was almost as much as the 750gb, glad i did now bc I did not realize how much space the games took. Another post somewhere on here mentioned buying another HD and mount for ps3 and swapping when full. This may be something I do when needing more room.

There are a lot of games that work from external drives...if you need the space of two drives, then you can have them both connected at once.
