I updated to the new dash and neither the backup or retail copy of fable 3 work on the xbox. i plan on buying AC brotherhood this weekend but want to now if that will not work on the xbox also. I have the Samsung/Toshiba TS-H943 drive flahed with ixtreme 1.61.
another question is it possible to get the drive flashed back to original firmware to get fable 3 to work. if so could i get another drive to have one flashed with original firmware and then have one it iextreme or whatever and swap them back and forth

ixtreme 1.61 will not boot newer wave games unless you use the activate disc first. also 1.61 is detectable by MS so that is one more reason to update your fw to LT or wait for LT+
if you want you can just use the activate disc for now to boot newer games while waiting for LT+. and if you are on live with that fw then you should stop now. odds are you are already flagged anyway tho.
swapping drives constantly would be a HUGE PAIN man, unless you plan on keeping the case of your 360 all the time. update fw its a long lasting solution

you would have to open the 360 and read the fw off the drive.
retail discs will boot no problem and will not flag you either. no matter what wave or ap2.5 or not.

retail should boot as far as i know. c4eva stated retail games should work. maybe you have a really old fw i dont know.
you say you got madden 2011 to boot? is it retail? if it is a backup it is possible that it has had the wave patched to a lower one that will work on your fw.

I've been using 1.61 (on a banned console) without the activation disc for all games through wave 6 (and no wave patching). As of what wave did it become necessary again?

Dont know what to say. My console is a BenQ. The last time my guy flashed my console was late 09, just before the ban hanner hit, so I know I dont have LT. Since then, I havent had any problems booting any game through wave 6 (just finished playing Force Unleashed II).
Guess I'll have to test to see if Fable III boots (obviously AC:B and NFS:HP wont). One question though, since my console is still on the NXE dash, will Fable 3 force an update?

I dunno man maybe he didnt put 1.61 on their like he said he did.
fable 3 will not force an update if your on nxe dash, you also wont get flagged either like you would on kinect dash.
