PS3 freezing on menu

Okay so my pS3 is jailbroken with a blackcat usb. Was using the first psgroove with one of the first file managers. Worked fine yadda yadda. I don't play my PS3 that often btw. So ACB comes out this past week and I read up on it and see it can work so I snagged the latest hermes 4b and gaia manager. Got it working np. Fire up the PS3 a few hours after and I'm freezing at the menu over and over, only get control for a few seconds but when the icons appear in the menu it freezes a few seconds after. Unplug my blackcat doesn't help. So I google and see alot of freezing topics etc. See a potential fix of going into factory settings and restoring data. I hear this wipes the whole drive and I'm on 3.41 currently. I'd like to stay 3.41 but also fix the problem and keep my games on my system. Has anyone had a similar thing happen and been able to fix it without losing everything? It's hard to believe that my system just magically died during the 2hrs it just sat there off while I finished watching football games. Anyways any help is appreciated.

1) dont run it in discless mode, this results in xmb freezes

2) go to safe mode - http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/How-to-access-Playstation-3-SAFE-MODE/m-p/43684789
then do Restore File System (files would be safe)
then again go to safe mode and do Rebuild Database (this step fixed xmb for me)

Thank you that fixed it for me. Wasn't aware of that as a side effect of playing it without the disc. Note taken and thanks again!

Well unfortunately I think I just disabled the games I had on my HD even though technically the freeze was fixed. I now get the trophy registration errors on games that I had played and gotten trophys with. Is there a way to fix that at all or will I just have to get the games and reinstall them fresh again?

If you've applied game updates recently, delete them from game data utility then try another backup manager, Rogero manager works better than the other managers for me.

Resigning into PSN worked to fix the trophy issue even though I couldn't access the store since it asks to update the firmware and I just selected no of course. So I just signed in to recover my profile kinda even though my old username was deleted from the restore/rebuild. It did the trick though and all my games work again. Yea I'll probably try the Rogero manager and see which I like more. The gaia one seems decent though.
