My kids 360 was flashed a while ago with i think 1.5 firmware, i patch wave 4 games to wave 3 and all is ok, im not sure what make of dvd drive is in the machine. I have a backup of need for speed and it recognises the game and says it needs to do a back up to continue ( my hard disc version on my jtag box with the update folder removed also does this!) I assume it wants to update the dash to incorporate the 2.5 check. If I allow the update will it in any way effect previouse backups or just if the drive is wrong not allow 2.5 enabled games? and if in ther future I have the drive reflashed to get around this will the 2.5 games then play?. Neither box has and ever will go on live.
Lastly is using a game the best way to install updates? or should i just download the update elsewhere and install ?

sorry for lots of questions but if i wreck the kids x box ill not be popular!

The game is checking for new dashboard, which you dont have and wont boot until you update. Updating your sons 360 will do nothing more than stop ap2.5 games from booting and flag for ban, but since you dont go online it doesn't matter. If you get lucky and there is a samsung or older hitachi version 49 or less I believe then it will boot ap2.5 anyways because they dont have ap2.5 built in. If you wait on lt+ to come out and reflash with that then games will boot once again. The new dash will only stop ap2.5 games from booting older ones will still work. Now on to your console. Do not just try to update using game disc to update or you will remove jtag exploit. You can view this video to get an idea of how to update jtag to kinect dash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKdHErpa2jc. It isn't required but after you update jtag you might have to use the official ms update to get avatars and videos working again. I had an issue with mine where I couldn't watch divx movies on xbox until I did this.

thanks for the info, ive sorted my jtag without having to update the dash, i rand the unpacked iso through x360gamehack v5.2 then removed the update folder and installed to my usb hard disc and all the "25" games work fine
ill go do an update on their console now, thanks for the info
