I decided to replace my dvd drive with a case fan to help with cooling, however, since the drive is no longer hooked up I get the center LED in the ring of light flashing at me non stop and in he menu it indicates open tray. Is this something I have to live with or is there a way to get around this other than put the dvd back in? If so i will just put a piece of tape over the center light so that it is not as annoying.

If you have a jumper from an old ide cd/dvd drive (the tiny thing on that back that you put on the pins to set it to slave/master).

Put the jumper on the two front-right most pins on the board where the dvd drive cable plugs in. And no more open tray.

I guess you could bridge those two pins anyway you like but a jumper fits perfectly.

Try shorting pin 4 to pin 6. (3.3v to pin 4)

AFAIK, the tray status line reports closed/open by the line being pulled high (3.3v) or low (0v/ground).

I'm not sure which, but i'm pretty sure now that when the line is high (3.3v) the system thinks the tray is closed.

Here's the easy way to do it:

Thanks guy I will give it a try. I actually butchered the dvd power cable from a whisper max fan to power the 120mm fan and the exhaust fan of the xbox, so I will just put a small wire in the end of the cable to jump it out. I will let you know if it works or not
