my xbox makes strange noises when i boot it up and when i insert a game it says please check the disk is not scratched or dirty with every dvd/cd i put in do i need a new dvd drive and can i use my pc drive 4 it?? thanx

sounds like you need a new dvd-rom.no you cant use pc dvd rom as xbox games are written backwards.

Yes you can use a PC DVD drive if you get the correct one and flash it with the modified firmware.. I already swapped mine with the Samsung 616T. It works flawlessly.. Here is a link to a site that is selling them already pre-flashed with the new firmware. All you have to do is basicly plug it in.. Here is a link if you want to purchase one.
