So I recently got 2 360's from a buddy who said they didn't work(RROD), No cables or HDD just the console's. I took them home and using the power Brick and AV cables from my 360 I tried to test them and niether would power up. I assumed they were duds but I happen to mention it to another buddy and he said there are like 3 different power bricks and with out the right one the 360's wouldn't power up. That's news to me, anyne else heard this before? and if so any idea how I tell?

depending on the type of motherboard of the xbox, the power supply will be of different wattages. it's very common

The oldest 360s have the 203w power supplies that can put out the most power and will work on any of the others. The newer 360s (not including slims) put out the least power at 150w and will only work on 150w systems. If it fits it will be ok to use, if it doesn't fit do not modify the plug so it works!

I think he's saying don't try to modify the plug. From my experience, if the plug fits in the console, it will work. If it doesn't -- then it's a different wattage. Modifying will probably burn up the machine.

Lite-On 74850, Ben-Q 64930, Hitachi 47DJ, Samsung MS28.

Gotta love afterdawn

Quoting myself from yahoo answers

Quote:
You can use the 203W power brick with any xbox 360 besides the slim. It won't hurt anything if you use the 203W brick.

If you want to use the appropriate power brick you can cross reference the numbers on the back of your 360 to find out which brick your console was intended for.

203W paired with 16.5A
175W paired with 14.2A
150W paired with 12.1A

So

the 203W Power supply will work with all xbox's. 16.5A, 14.2A, 12.1A
the 175W Power supply will only work if it says 14.2A or 12.1A.
the 150W Power supply will only work if it says 12.1A

There's more information here

Correct. I've seen systems red ring with a 0020 error from modifying the plug to fit. Don't do it!

Yeah. Assuming he's in America.

Why do all Americans think that if there's a dumbass he's yank?

Oh yeah.
why do non-americans have to be trolls and start "our country is better than yours" bullshit from nothing? I'm not european so I can only give information based on my own experience with american consoles, but i'd imagine the "if the plug fits, it works" rule still applies. Either way i'm just trying to help so fuck you

C4RN1 is correct.

The power supplies are not backwards compatible. Only forward compatible.

205W power supplies will fit and power (all three) 205W 175W & 150W consoles.
175W power supplies will fit and power (both) 175W & 150W consoles. NOT 203W.
150W power supplies will only fit and power 150W consoles. NOT 203W or 175W.

So the rule of thumb is, "if it fits, it will work".
