Upcoming Windows Phone 7 software update to bring multitasking, copy/paste

article published on 29 November, 2010

According to posts via Twitter, Microsoft is ready to release a giant update for Windows Phone 7, one that will bring many of the features that users hoped for when the smartphones launched earlier this month. With the software update will come the following updates: -Bing turn-by-turn directions, improvements -Custom ringer support -Copy/Paste -Multitasking "MS took 3 months ... [ read the full article ]

They released it without multitasking...in an time when even apple has multitasking?

"MS took 3 months to do what Apple did in 3 years. Let's just say, they could have called it Windows Phone 8," says Chris Walshie, developer behind ChevronWP7."

The only reason why I think they removed it in the first place was to push it back out as an update to make it "seem" as if they are constantly improving on the OS. It's just as I said in some older news thread, when they said it would be released without it.

WTF??? Wasn't WM6 multitasking and COPY-PASTE capable? There are no excuses for WP7 having lack of those features now in the late 2010.

Is M$ so desperate in getting their market share that they think they must mimic Apple even in the things they do wrong? It makes no sense at all. I totally agree with KillerBug; this is an absolute, unforgivable FAIL!

Mike:

1.- The release date of WP7 was delayed several times. Poor excuse.

2.- It's not a new OS coded from the scratch, but it lacks of ESSENTIAL features that were present in earlier versions. That is, maybe the jurassic releases didn't have the "caliber" to make the phone intuitive and easy for my grandma, but they had copy/paste and multitasking instead.

3.- There's really no need to clarify this point, but I am, in fact, a programmer... Which is an important part of my daily job, among many other things related to computer science and engineering. Of course, I don't work for M$, whilst you may otherwise... Or, at least, would like to.

4.- I may be an idiot, but at least I'm not idiot enough to spend my time calling anything to anyone I don't know. There's life beyond the troll's bridge.

The most probable reason they did not release multi-tasking and copy/paste is simply because they did not have time..

They had to release the phone before it got too late into the holiday season.. They needed to establish a brand by black Friday and definitely by Christmas. Being how many were skeptical about the windows phone 7, establishing a positive reputation before the holiday season was detrimental to the success of the launch and future of the product.

How do you know what we are? Besides that, obviously we know (well at least I did) that Microsoft wanted to get the product out before the holidays because they were extremely overdue but that still doesn't excuse the fact that Multi tasking should have been on the top of the to do list when building their new OS. Multi-tasking alone kept the WM 6 alive for as long as it did. Now introducing a brand new system and leaving out an old feature such as multi tasking that almost everyone wants doesn't make any sense on a smart phone.
