I am at my wits end with trying to stream media. I have tried WMP, PS3 Media Server, and TVersity and all result in stuttering play back. I have searched guides and set up instructions but nothing works. I have a C2D 2.6ghz, 4gb ram, SLI GTS250, Wireless G 108 or what ever it is. I am running off a 2wire router from AT&T. Is it just a windows issue. my bro never had problems with ps3 media server from his mac. if this is the issue ill try running off linux but if i can avoid it i will. Right now i am ripping my dvds to my hard drive via DVDshrink with just the main title, no menus or anything. For wmp i just used a simple cheat and renamed the files .mpg because for some reason it works. relevant advice is welcome or a point in the right direction. I tried converting to mp4 but the quality is crap. I know mpg and VOB can play nativly on the ps3 but you have to use fat32 and its easier to just switch disc at that point. i've been working on this for 3 days and nothing seems to work.
Ive never had major problems using windows, unless streaming High Def content. Try a wired connection if possible, wireless works for me if its not 1080p content and I do not try to ff or rewind. A wire is so much better if thats an option.
convert them to avi's. you're probably just slowing down the conversion from the computer to your ps3.
I went out and bought a my book world edition external harddrive (connects to your network instead of usb) and it works great, I put all my media on it all the time and it works flawlessly to my xbox and ps3. But all my movies are .avi's
like Cletoz said....try converting them to AVI, it looks like your machine is having probs running DVD format files (as it uses too much process power) have u noticed it slows down your comp when you run DVDs of you comp also?!?!
.avi files are better and still keep the quality and are easier for both the computer to run and PS3 to stream.
Also run a wired connection (Like I have) as I have had problems with wireless myself as I have too much interference around my area.
Just use PS3 Media Server as I have found also to be the best of all and the easiest to configure (practically nothing to touch just install add the folders and run.
