Hello
I have a Liteon with LT firmware, don't care about live and will never use Kinect.
Should I bother updating the dashboard?
Should I upgrade to LT+ firmware?
What if a game tries to force me to update dashboard, are there any of those?
Are there any games I won't be able to play if I don't update one or both of the above?
Thanks for any info. I've been reading like crazy but sometimes the info is hard to put together into a clear picture for exactly what I'm using.

I would update the dashboard and upgrade to LT+. Make sure any AP2.5 games are properly patched using abgx360 and you should be fine to play any game you want. There are only a couple of non-Kinect titles that require the Kinect dashboard to be installed before you can play them, but there will no doubt be more as time goes on.

Thanks for the info. I thought there might be some alternative opinions but I guess not. Couple of quick questions. Does it matter the order I do it, say dashboard, lt+ or the other way around? I still have my dummy.bin file so I don't need to read the drive again, just patch and write?

it is suggested that you update via some other method than that on the game disc, not sure if it really matters or not, but i would flash and then update if you are going to use a game to update the dash NFS for example, that ACB, and Fable 3 have forced updates on them.

once your drive was flashed with lt you will not be able to probe the key anymore,u will need to cut but since u have ur key saved just load it up and lt+ flash away

I don't know what you mean by this. Are you saying that when I wrote the original LT to the drive it made it so I can no longer read it without cutting the trace? Did I miss this somewhere, was that common knowledge when we all ran out and flashed LT when it first came out?
Lucky I have the files. I guess it's time to make a good backup of them and put them somewhere safe.

you are fine with the backup files you have as long as you have the correct key no worries, just do liteon erase and load you dummy you'll be fine.

What they are saying is:
Load your dummy.bin as source (it has your key).
Load LT+ as target.
Spoof source to target.
Lite-On Erase.
Write.
(easy as pie)

Always email the firmware dump to yourself. This way you will always have it.

Now just for my curiosity, if I didn't have my bin file what would I be looking at? Is it true I would no longer be able to probe and get the keys?

I was given to me, just passing it along.

You'd be looking at doing a full firmware dump. Cutting traces, dumping, flashing, and re-soldering the traces. (It should be done this way anyway).

I'm in the same boat, I have a liteon 7 series drive with LT 1.1, and I want to upgrade to LT + 1.1... however I'm having a hard time getting JF to see the drive... do I have to do anything special to get it into vendor mode?

I also have my original firmware, so I don't need to read the drive again, and I understand the instructions above, but I can't get to that part yet unless JF see's the drive.... my chipset is ok as I've flashed benq's without any problems, and just flashed my Hitachi 78 earlier today, and that seems to have gone well (except it seems I may need a pot calibration?! - stupid shitachi's)
sooo... how do I get it into vendor mode?? btw, using a banned console to power the drive, don't have a ck3.
Thanks!
