According to new Nielsen data, smartphones now account for 29.7 percent of all U.S. mobile phone subscribers, the highest percentage in history.
Furthermore, for the first time ever Apple iPhone has become the most popular smartphone in the nation, taking 27.9 percent market share.

Ok, seriously??????????????????
Does one really need to point out that the included graphic pie chart (as well as every other graphic of importance on AD) needs to be "clickable" in order to blow it up SO WE CAN READ IT???

If you have an iPhone, you have the luxury of using pinch and zoom capabilities. ; )
The chart should be in flash and interactive so crapple users couldn't see how they're winning in duping people into buying their crap

i simply don't understand how iphone gets success when symbian and android can do much better. well, android is gaining now, and to me, many americans are fond of look rather than functionality.

You're right it is mostly about look. I believe it's also about interface and ease of use, which I feel iOS still has the advantage. I have both an iPhone 4 and an Android phone and would take iOS over Android anyday in terms of overall quality.

i agree with you regarding interface, and ease of use. probably overall iphone feels better, but it is seriously expensive. the phone itself costs a lot despite contract in US, and AT&T makes you pay a lot for the data plan. will not consider iphone as long as it is tied to one carrier only. freaking monopoly.

Mukhis, obviously you don't have an Iphone 4.........
It's not a monopoly, what would you do if you have the hottest gadget in town? Try to get the exclusive distribution, duh. Any business school will teach you that, even the online ones.

i don't want to have an iphone primarily because it is tied to AT&T, and despite the fact that you pay a lot for the mandatory data plan every month, and sign a 2 yr contract, the iphone still costs you extra, whereas a symbian or android based device comes either free or almost free.
bottomline: it's a monopoly. i am sure iphone would cost you much less if it was distributed between at least two carriers.
NOTE: although you are paying so high for iphone4, this version is messed up with signal issue. duh!

Just saw this weekend that Boost Mobile has a new Android phone for $200...no contract...all you can eat data/voice/texts for $50/mo on the Sprint network.
If I wasn't in the middle of my Sprint contract and this phone had a physical keyboard, I'd be all over that.
The guys here at work with iPhones all have $100+/mo contracts...

When was the last time that you heard a comment about the reception issue?, it was proven that all phones have the same issue. Yo need to be informed Mukhis to be able to debate properly.
The only problem with the Iphone is the carrier. AT&T was just pointed as the worst cellular carrier in the whole USA by Consumer Report and people (including myself) still stick with them, wanna know why? because the Iphone is awesome!

all the time. i have a friend who has told me the last month that he regretted that he had bought iphone4. i agree that compared to verizon, at&t is a bad carrier (i have at&t as well), but that has nothing to do with iphone4's signal issue. keep in mind that i did not say that about iphone3S. apple has messed up this time for sure.
and again, with iphone, you pay much more. worth it? may be yes, as long as you can afford it.
