Does the Lite-On DG-16D4S drive in the slim use the same laser as the previous Lite-Ons and BenQs?

A friend has one, and he says that his small so stuck something in it (I don't know what) and now it won't read read games that well at all. He can't return it since it's been knocked over and scratched all up from him trying to open it. Since I've got a few extra Lite-On/BenQ lasers, I'm just gonna replace it for him when I see him over the holidays, if the lasers are the same. I can't find any info or pics of the damn thing.

well if you want you can replace the drive

if it's the older xbox 360 slim drive you can dump the firmware with the use of tarablinda and write it back with the dvd key to the new drive

Replacing the drive is no problem. But like I said, I have a handful of lasers and I'd rather replace it than have him buy another drive.
