You need to cool it with the all caps. Please read the forum rules.

Not enough space on the target drive means exactly that - your hard drive is running out of space or if you're burning to disc the files are too large.

So you are getting this error when you try to begin ripping the disc?

To check how much hard drive space you have left try the following:

My Computer > right click your hard drive (usually C:) > select "Properties" > under the "General" tab the amount of free hard drive space should be listed. How much free space do have?

Do you still have the folders on your hard drive from any previous films that you have burnt? If so delete them as you don't need them anymore, they may be taking up valuable space depending on the size of your hard drive.

Use this guide for how to backup discs using DVDShrink:

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm

If you are creating video_ts and audio_ts folders on your hard drive it is best to create a folder i.e. 'Films' and save them to that destination so that you know where they are for deleting.

If you have used the hard drive for backing films onto and are unsure where they are then use your search function for files or folders called 'video_ts' or 'audio_ts'

I use DVDShrink (free) or X-Copy Express to backup my films and use Nero or DVDDecrypter(free) to burn them. DVDDecrypter can be downloaded from this site and if you look in the 'guides section' you will find how to use it.

Okay, I don't want to be rude, but backing up DVDs really requires a certain amount of basic computer skills that you may need some work on. At the very least, you need to get used to navigating around your hard drive(s) and optical (CD/DVD) drives in Windows Explorer. If you do a search on Google for Windows Tutorials you should find some sites that can help you out.

BTW to delete a file, right click on the file name and select Delete from the menu that pops up.

Hey Calmdown,

Read the posts..pay attention here...Delete the files after you burn..do not.. I repeat..do not leave them on your hard drive..you are talking major gigabyte space per disc that you copy..right click on the file and hit delete..if it says it is too big for the recycle bin..which it will..click yes to permanately delete the file..we are here to help, but you have to read the posts and follow directions or you will get know where.

Good Luck,

Sher

Calmdown, most of us have very large hard disks usually in excess of 120 gigs but even a large disk can be choked by a few large movies taking up space. Once thy're bunred you should as Nephilium pointed out delete them.

Calmdown,

You still haven't answered the most important question - how much free space do you have on your hard drive?????

Calmdown,

If you did have 4 successful burns, then it would have left 4 files on you local disk (for most their C drive). Those files will be 4.35GB each, so if you have no need for them just delete them.

The programs I've used that doesn't keep the files are: DVDXCopy, Nero's Recode 2, and DVDCloner2.

Calmdown,

You must have 2 paritions. No matter, when you open shrink make sure the path for your temp files are to you C drive. Also if your using Decrypter, when you click "backup!" in shrink, change the target destination to ISO Image File.

Calmdown,

As far as using Shrink. This is how I use it with DVD Decrypter.

1) Open Shrink, then open disc
2) Cllck "backup!"
3) Change Target Destination to "ISO Image File", then check the box to Launch DVD Decrypter
4) Click Ok

Remember to run no other programs.

Hmmm ... in your first post you said you'd already burned 4 DVDs but now you're asking how to burn them? So in your first post, did you really mean you had just "burned" them to your hard drive (which is not the correct usage of the word "burn" so I put it in quotes)? This would also explain why you're running out of disk space. As several people noted, you should be deleting the files from your hard drive after burning the DVD-R (or DVD+R) disc -- if you don't do this, you'll run out of space very quickly.

Anyway, as for burning -- check the guides on this site for info on various programs to use (Nero, DVD Decrypter, etc.). DVD Shrink doesn't burn the disc (it just rips/encodes it, putting the files onto your hard drive), so you have to use another program to do the burning. Did you get a burning program with your external DVD burner? (EG mine came with RecordNow, which I use all the time without a problem by copying the video_ts and audio_ts onto a "data" disc.) DVD Decrypter is free; many people on these forums have used it with great success -- I haven't tried it yet since I have RecordNow. Another option is to download Nero for a free 30-day trial. I used Nero's demo version with a lot of success until I figured out that the software that came with my DVD burner worked for DVD back-ups as well as my home-made DVDs.

So anyway, the sequence is (1) use DVD Shrink to put the files on your hard drive; (2) use a burning program (Nero or Decrypter) to burn the files (a single .iso file OR a bunch of files in two folders, audio_ts and video_ts --actually the audio_ts file is always empty, don't ask me why) to a DVD disc; (3)check the disc in a regular DVD player (not your computer); and (4) if the burned DVD is OK, which it USUALLY will be if you get a "successful burn" from your burning program, then DELETE THE FILES from your hard drive to free up space for your next DVD.

Hope this helps. BTW you might consider a more descriptive thread title than "error." :-) Good luck!!
