If you have recently downloaded the latest firmware version 3.55 then the downgrader will no longer work on your system, in this update sony has patched the ability to do this. sony has officially caught wind of this way too fast. so if you would like to do this. DO NOT UPDATE TO 3.55!!

hahaha aint that just a bugger. That's what happens when you share a technical device with someone who doesnt understand or keep up with the scene. Wives/younger brothers updating cos they wanted to go online without asking if it was ok with you. Happened when otheros was removed, when the jailbreak on 3.41 came out, and now when the downgrade is avaiable for 3.50 and 3.55 now prevents that.
Lets hopw you dont have to wait another 2 months for someone to make a downgrader for the 3.55 fw.
Best thing to do, lock away your ps3, dont let anyone else use it, or disable it from going onto the internet. Cos what if next weel a downgrade for 3.55 is made and sony release 3.60, you dont wanna be left behind for a 4th time :D

So my question regarding this online issue, what happens when you want to go online and play a game.

but if the whole point of jailbreaking is to play your backups instead of your actual games then what is the point of buying another system to if you have to use your actual games on it?

Hello, just thought id add my two pennies, what ive been doing for years now is this. i for one think that PS3 is the superior gaming system over the 360 but i really dont see much difference when playing games that arent exclusive to the respective consoles. so what i do is play a new game first on 360, if i like the campaign/single player i rent for PS3 (gamefly) and play online for free. if i love online, i will almost always buy the title just to play online. the titles i play on my 360 are the ones i could care less about online. frankly, IMO Halo is the only title exclusive to 360 that i would want to play online, but still not worth the $60 a year for xbl. you could either do this or apply the same thing to two PS3s where one is completely stock and always updated and the other is JB'en, viola!

I use my 3.55 system to play a tiny handful of games with good online multiplayer...actually, just Red Dead and GT5. Everything else is on the jailbroken system.
Also, the JB is great for kids...as there are no disks to get scratched up and they can't get online where every game is full of people using language that would offend a sailor.
There will come a point where we are cracking sony's fixes within a few hours or when we just have a good alternative to the PSN. For now, you need two systems if you want to jailbreak and you want to go online every day.

Because backing up can also imply pirating, Sony et al will assume all are pirates if you back up your own games. Because of that they will most likely ban you from going online if that can. WE have seen M$ already do it, but so far Sony have not, probably due to people seeing what M$ did and not taking the chance.
I for one believe that since these media corporations have made it illegal to backup your own disks, like in the UK, they should be responsible for replacing any and all damaged disks. Cos to me it looks lke we are not buying a cd but the right to listen to teh song on the cd. So if I have already paid for that right, surely it is our right to claim another cd from the publisher if the disk becomes damaged. If not make it legal to backup your own disks then!
So yeah, if you are interesting in jailbreaking your console and playing online you will need a 2nd console, one for jailbreaking and the other for official legal use.

The whole point of jailbreaking is not playing backups. It's opening the system to whatever the homebrew community can dish out. I bought a second PS3 with 3.41 in September for the sole purpose of having one when homebrew explodes. It's gotten some use, tampering with backup managers, file explorers, emulators, etc... little things here and there. But it's just a matter of being patient and following the scene. It's only been 4 months or so. It's a learning process. and the community is learning quickly. There are some exciting rumors on the horizon and some major players stepping up.
IMO, although extremely useful, backup managers are a curse. Too much implication to piracy. Unfortunately, a lot of it is true.

Yup this much is true, I for one am really looking forward to some great home brew but my hopes are set for next year since its so early in the scene.
