I have gone though this several times now with JF 1.71 -- I have a friend with a machine with a dead MS28. I was able to save the key dump (SAM.ofw) and tried to spoof it to a liteon 74850c. The problem with the liteon drive was that I had issues with it reading disks initailly, before I learned how to adjust and repair the laser not reading disks. I was able to set the pot on the Liteon, and now, after spoofing, JF does see it as an MS28. I compared the key to the original Samsung when dumping, so I know it's good. But the drive always just says reading for a second or two, then eject disk. I've seen bad lasers before, and usually there's at least a bit more of an attempt at reading the data.

My question is. What if the drive that I'm spoofing from (the key) belongs to a drive that wasn't originally from the machine? Now I am beginning to wonder if this was the original. Since it came to me unknown. My friend says that the person that gave it to him says that it has the original drive... The machine has been opened for sure. And the drive all busted up, as he obviously prodded it to play in its death throws...

I have used the SAM.OFW from the original drive and spoofed with iExtreeme 1.51 and the LT+ with the same results. I've gotten some tips with this method:

hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZeX7gidxI8 (part one and two)

which has you swapping the drives during the process. It eventually worked, as I hit outro after flash, and the Liteon in JF showed the MS28. This is after just tring to spoof by just loading the sam.ofw, and Liteon 1.1 -- then spoofing to source -- erase, then write. It all goes well, but...

Question is -- if the drive is whe wrong key (not the original drive) then what would happen when I turned on the box? same thing? I thought it would come up with something that I've gotten before with a bad flash -- "wrong DVD region", or "play dvd".

So, I'm still hoping to end this mystery --Bad laser, or bad key/flash, etc...

Lite-On 74850, Ben-Q 64930, Hitachi 47DJ, Samsung MS28.

if the key is wrong; you get play dvd. it won't read the disc (as in: you won't see a game picture in your MS dashboard. it will only say play dvd.

Thanks. So, it has to be the laser or drive then. Because with tray open, it goes: close tray, then closes, and says reading, then says open tray. So, that's better news than I had thought.

I got it all the way down to 2.9 ohms, and it still doesn't even try to read for a few seconds. I think it's toast. I have been able to adjust about six drives now, with the laser adjustment. this one is a bit harder though.

If you are using LT+ and have installed the new dash, good luck getting the thing (spoofed liteon) to read. I was about in the same boat. I had a benq spoofed as a hitachi, and with LT+ firmware, it came up with open tray every time. As soon as I grabbed a spare hitachi and flashed 1.51 on it, it read just fine with the new dash (games and movies). I hope this helps you if all else fails. Good Luck!

Hmmm. That could be the issue -- because I'm getting open tray on CD's too -- I thought that I had tried 1.51 -- but it could have been one of the tries that didn't work. Now that it's a Liteon with LT+ -- how would you flash to 1.51. can I just load Sam.bin as the original FW -- now that JF sees it as a samsung? and patch to 1.51?

I literally had to find a spare Hitachi drive to get it to work. The xbox originally came with a hitachi, so that's why I tried it. Before that, I tried everything under the sun, including flashing to every firmware made for the benq. It was the console somehow knowing that it wasn't the original type drive (Hitachi in my case) in the 360. If you could find a samsung cheap on ebay, I bet it would work just fine. There's something about spoofing and this new dash update that just doesn't negotiate.

I've spoofed Liteon as Hitachi before, but not Samsung, and this ms28. plus, because I'm not sure about the originality of this drive -- and wether it came with this machine or not, I'm still fiddling through why it won't play.

JF is showing the Liteon as an MS28 though!! that's pretty cool. but now, loading the Sam.ofw as original and upgrading to 1.51 gives me errors, after setting to vendor mode, etc. Saying something about the key. but I did notice that when I discover the drive in JF, that it doesn't show the key...

Has anyone here ever spoofed a Liteon 74850 as Samsung/Toshiba MS28?

I've tried Firmware 1.51, LT and LT+ -- I know that I am spoofing -- after Outreset ATA the device is showing as MS28.

I didn't know what they were so difficult to spoof.
