Market research firm IDC has said today that the end of the PC-centric era is near, with tablet and smartphone shipments set to overtake PC shipments in 2012. To be fair, this is one segment (the PC) fighting against numerous segments...Phones, tablets, televisions, cable boxes, even the Mac will be a "app enabled device" soon (and presumably no longer a PC by the definition of this study).
