Before I get my burner I want to get some DVD-Rs off eBay, and the majority of them are Princo. Is Princo reliable, or will I be left with a bunch of coasters?

Just bought a DVD±RW Drive, go easy on me please.

Every1 here will say No, but i have used about 500 of them and havnt had a problem with them so far.

They will recommend Riteks G04's, which are good aswell.

Thanks for the fast reply! I might try Princo, and if that doesn't work I'll try Ritek.

Verbatim Metal AZO and Taiyo Yuden are very good too, although Ritek G04 can't be beat for price :)

I havnt had many problems with Princo however when i use them i have a tendency to have to doublecheck everything. Most of the time things check out but there's the occasional problem :)

Any problems big enough to damage a PS2? That's the main reason I bought a burner, to backup PS2 games.

Just bought a DVD±RW Drive, go easy on me please.

nope they wont damage the ps2 but my ps2 has a hard time reading princos. 4x princos only read on my ps2 if written at 1x while riteks g04 4x work perfectly even when i burn them at 8x!

When I first started to burn DVD I used Princo blank disks. I did put labels on them all. I run a read test on all my burned disks before putting them away.
About a month ago I starting to watch some of the movies I copied with Princo six months ago. All had many, many read errors and would not play in any DVD player. Now remember I placed labels on them. With Ritex G04 blank disks I have burned over 100 disks with labels. I have not had one disk show any read errors as yet.
I would not take a chance on Princo. Just my own input
on Princo blank disks. roberson

I used to use princo when I first started out. I used the Datawrite yellow 4X. To be honest I didn't have many problems but did notice a bit of extra pixelation. I heard that the datawrite princos are now a different kind and not as good as they used to be.Now I use RiData Ritek G04's which incidentally I get cheaper than Princo's. If I were You I'd stick to Ritek.

If you are mainly backing up ps2 games DO NOT get princo...the ps2 has a hard time reading them and you laser will wear down very fast. So when you asked if they damage the ps2 yes they do. When backing up ps2 games you should use the highest quality media possible and princo is definantly not high quality.

Yea I made the MISTAKE of using Princos on PS2 and my laser got DRE's really fast and sony put in a new laser. But it is weak as hell and has trouble reading backups most don't work or are very slow. I am def. never using Princos for PS2 again. Would they weaken a laser on a regular dvd player tho?? I know Princos are bad because they use the CMC dye and it has too much reflection. I heard riteks are very good and shouldn't damage ps2 laser, but I already have a bunch of sony dvd-r ver. 1. Does anyone know what kind of dye sony uses it how i can find out??

I used Princo 1x media in the past and they worked great. Have a Pioneer 106 DVDR, which I also love Ritek and now only use Sonic.

I think DVD-R Compatibility is the issue. <--

Been about 8months and my backup PS2 & Movies still work fine. My PS2 laser read these DVD much better then any CDR media.

Got to be careful, they will not work/skip etc if you get finger prints on the bottom or any hairline scratches. So if you have kids like my friends your funked!

Now im using the awesome SONICS, can't beat that price for quality generics.

Stay well clear of Princo. I`ve used about 100 of them at 4x speed and they all have reading errors. There`s no guarantee that in time your data or movie back ups will be readable either. These are the worst qualtiy disks you can get. If you still want to give them a try burn them at spees no higher than 2x.
I now use only Ritek GO4 and have great results every time.

When i first started DVD burning i bought a pack of the orange Bulkpaq 4x DVD-R's. Out of the 25 pack 8 of them had coasters. Scince then i bought a 50 pack of Ridata 4x DVD-R and not a single one has failed on me. I would never choose crappy Princo media again if i was you i would only buy DVD media using the Ritck dye.
