Ok so Ive been doing a lot of research regarding ps3 jailbreak game compatibility.

1. Do you think its worth jail breaking the ps3 when about 75% of the games do not run at 100% (black screens, freezing, not all can work of an external hdd)??

^I am prolly completely wrong but I guess I'm confused a bit...Do some of the game rips need an original ps3 disc in and then you can play the rip via backup manager?

2. If jail broken, can you still run originals like normal?

My research shows that people who claim to research something often mean they heard it somewhere without looking in to it.

That's a list of games and whether they work or not with a back up manager. Please try again. The overwhelming majority of games work perfectly. If a game has a file over 4GB, you can FTP the game to the internal hard drive or split the file and transfer the game to internal from an external drive through a back up manager. Black screen games are only a tiny minority. Games freezing can be bugs in the game itself (often is) or you could be having problems with the PL3 payload. The only game that's given me a problem is Fallout New Vegas, but I switched to hermes4b and problem solved. Games that require firmware 3.50 don't work yet, but who knows what tricks the devs have up their sleeves.

The exploit is only in effect until you turn off the console. Turn it back on and it's back to normal. You have to disconnect the power and use a dongle every time you want to run the exploit. I bring this up because some people complain that backwards compatible models can't play ps2 games in jailbreak mode. But PS3 original discs work perfectly fine. If you back up a game and it's already installed, you might have to reinstall the game from the backup if you want to play it FROM the backup. I'm talking about game data, not save data. You won't lose your saves or trophies. Some games require a disc in the drive to play, most don't.

Is it worth it? Only if you can live without PSN access, like emulators and other homebrew, want to preserve your blu-ray drive for as long as possible, and have the patience to wait for the next big development in the scene.

Thanks for the response Dab.

I didnt quite understand the 2nd paragraph...So to run a backup game, I have to follow that step-by-step process for the dongle every time? I saw some youtube videos where this guy just put the iso or game folder to an external, go to back up manager and load the game, put an original ps3 disc in, and then play the backup when it popped up in the xmb menu...I didnt see him press power and eject and all that stuff..

Not really a step by step process, just unplug the power then plug it back in. then press power followed by eject. thats it, then you go into the backup manager to play or backup your games.

As for the video, he probably did the power eject thing before receording the video, teh video was prob about ftping to your ps3, not how to start the jailbreak

Might not always be the case. I've backed up FFXIII, UC1 and Toy Story 3. When playing off the backup files, I was not asked to reinstall the game data. But I can see it being the case if you own the US version and decide to download the EU version. Then the game data will probably install in its corresponding BLUS or BLES folder.

I have only had one game ask to reinstall; the others just crashed and gave errors until I reinstalled on my own.
