Thermal Printable DVD-R vs Inkjet Printable DVD-R

I suck. I knew that there were DVD-Rs that could be printed on directly without having to use a label. But now I'm confused because I'm not sure if there is more than one technology available commercially and I'm not quite sure how to proceed.

My goal is to print directly onto a DVD-R without using a label. What is the difference between a thermal printable DVD-R and an inkjet printable DVD-R? I bought 100 BeAll 1X silver/purple DVD-Rs with no stacking rings, which are supposed to work well with thermal printers.

Are these discs compatible with printers that print directly on inkjet printable DVDs (such as the Epson Stylus Photo R200 and R300)? Or would i need to buy a "thermal" printer to handle them? I guess I'm just annoyed because I thought I did enough research in the first place when I bought the DVD-Rs with no stacking rings, but now it's possible that I needed to go one step further. Please help!!

Also, is there a quality difference between using thermal friendly DVD-Rs on thermal printers vs inkjet printable DVD-Rs on inkjet printers? In other words, what produces better quality pictures when printing directly on DVD-Rs, thermal printers or inkjet printers? Thanks for your help!
