Nokia 6310 restriction code

For no reason my Nokia 6310 now says 'phone restricted' and asks for a code to unlock. 10 seconds later it switches itself off. I have no idea why! If I put the sim (vodafone contract) into any other phone it works fine. I wouldn't mind other than all my contacts are saved to the phone not my sim.
Can anyone help? The phone's code 0507226 & IMEI: 350842/20/212667/9
I admit I have had this phone some time, is there a reason it's happened?
