You may also need a crossover cable rather than a patch (straight through)

Yeah, but I didn't have money... I asked my cousin, he orginally came up the idea when he was doing it on his PS3... So I followed his instructions, after that nothing worked. So, I did...(I followed my additional instructions <--At the thread message. It's in the NOTE section), and what do ya know? it worked!

I've never actually tried connecting it. But you mean you can't just connect and copy/paste files? Is there a way to get files on the 360, so they can play without going through all that stuff? I tried plugging in a cat5e cable just between the two to see what it would say, and it basically said I needed a hub (and, in so many words, a non-null hub). All I had with me at the time was a null hub, so I didn't bother. I ask because I thought you could put music on the 360 and make playlists and whatnot for in-game play, and I have friends who have done it without windows' "media center" (which I refuse to use).

Also, would moovida, elissa, xbmc, etc., work as well (if a media center is necessary)? and is win required, or do the *nix versions work as well? (No reason they shouldn't but microsoft has a habit of artificially blocking programs/compatibility).

I think you're in a wrong thread, my friend. This is a tutorial for users that have problems connecting their PC to XBOX 360, NOT hacking the XBOX HDD. But if you insist:

i'll tell you how to put music in it: Burn an Audio CD.
For pictures: Use a Flash Drive.
For movies (Free to see but not to copy-paste):Use a Flash Drive (Compatible with AVI files)
