Just wondering, I am not hoping to work miracles here. Is there a way to remove the "This console has been banned ...." Error message? I get it so often it's starting to annoy me. I doubt there is a way to TOTALLY unban your system since I was banned around this time last year.

If there isnt, and you happen to know how banning works, please explain.

I am thinking maybe there is a file added to the HDD or removed from it that I can repair to make the error go away. Because weather or not Im connected to the net my console knows it's banned.

Just wanna fix/understand it. Thanks!

Also, how much sense does banning us from LIVE make when LIVE is the ONLY thing I (we) were actually paying for? ... Seems silly to me.

It's like work, you show up late and they send you home... as punishment. It's like ... you realize I am late cuz I DONT want to be here right? .... lol.

Dirp!

It is impossible to unban a non-jtag console. The ban is not stored on your harddrive. It's stored on your nand(where your dashboard is stored). If your console got banned last year, then you have at least the 9199 dashboard on your xbox. There's no way to jtag a system past the 7371 dashboard as the efuses are burned out and makes the jtag hack impossible. If you have a jtag'd console, you can get a new keyvault and unban yourself, but that is the only way. Even so, if you get on live again, you would be banned within 4 hours. I'm just trying to help you understand it like you've asked above. Banning you from live makes total sense. If you think about it, most people will go out and buy a new console, which equals more money for M$. Even if you modify it, they've still pocketed at least $200 from you + money that you spend for live. It's a win/win situation for M$. AFAIK, they haven't started a massive ban wave this year...... yet.....

Ohhh, okay. That makes sense. Thanks for explaining it.

What I think MS should do instead of banning people, and I dont know the legality of this, but I am pretty sure you could do this. Is take the average number of games a person buys in a year, divide it by 12, and you now have your new cost of going on live.

AKA You get caught modding, sure you can stay on live, but it now costs you 50-80 dollars a month. Force people to either ban themselves, or pay for their games. Funds could be distributed to the gaming companies based on what the player plays most online.

Is there a flaw in that system I dont see? .... seems pretty clever from here.

Yes.

If you got banned from Live, would you?........

A. Pay 50-80 per month for Live so you could get back on
B. Just buy a new console for 200 and pay the regular Live prices

Nobody would do A which costs way more in the long-term, when they can do B.

the 'ban' isn't stored anywhere. being banned only means you cannot connect to the MS server; they just do not allow YOUR console to connect to the MS server. since your console has console specific characteristics (mac addres; cpu code etc. etc. which are all console specific and hence can detect each console), they just blacklist those data and hence those consoles.

nothing is stored on the nand, since that would mean that MS can magically write data to your nand as soon as you log onto live. that isn't the case obvious/luckily.

I was assuming that if you go out and buy a new console, you pay regular live fees. So it's up to the user to impose either a self ban, paying ridiculous rates, or buying a new XBox. I think they'd make MORE money if they did that. Which is I assume what they want.

I understand I am banned from their server. What I am saying is my xbox isnt plugged into any internet at all, and ill be playing a game and from time to time, i still get "This Console is Banned". It's not microsoft's server doing that, it's my XBox. THUS that means that SOMEWHERE, there is a file on it, or files removed from it, that lets it know it's banned.

So you're right and your wrong. Above is explain by Bill, that they edit teh dash, so there is no way to get to that info. So Ill just have to deal with the error.

I know right? ... but people do. My box went "You're banned!" and I was like .. well ... it was a nice run ... time to play EVERYTHING still. I just stopped playing COD online ... which, if anything, was probably a good thing.

I remember when an old mate got banned, it was funny because he got pissed off and just pirated everything he could after that. He used to actually buy the legit games, but he thought screw it.

Also I've always wondered couldn't a user get a new KV, unban the x box, restore the original NAND dump and be on-line again?

please if your asking about xbox 360 firmware, LT+, how to cut and solder, what drive you have and such check this PDF file
