Hi All, first time on these forums for a good 2-3 years, but its always been the font of technical knowledge. Firstly, please don't flame me for making yet another thread on ps3 jailbreaking - I've only made a new one because it seems that things change so quick atm with different firmwares etc, and I've exhausted my searches after a good 2 days.
So, I've bough a PS3Break v1.2 dongle, and also have a PS3 (firmware version 3.5) in the mail coming to me.
I'm wanting to be able to rip games to an external HDD, and as I understand it from my searches of forums, google etc:
1. I should downgrade from 3.5 to 3.41 (I have instructions/videos on that)
2. Once on 3.41, I can jailbreak ps3 using dongle, and load Backup Manager
The things I'm confused about, or rather theres conflicting information on, is the following:
1. Once on 3.41, as I understand it, I can spoof the firmware to 3.5 in order to play newer games (some places say this is the case, others say that it is purely cosmetic and won't allow me to play games that require 3.5)
2. Will I be able to play any games online with firmware 3.41, or will it force a firmware update if I try to go online - in other words is their any way to go online with a jailbroken ps3 at present (perhaps spoofing firmwares)?
Many thanks for any help, as you might have guessed, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to ps3's, and having spent so long on google/forums etc, it seems that alot of the information is now out of date.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers

1) It is cosmetic, spoofing to 3.5 does not allow you to play games that require 3.50. There are some games which, I think use the old sdk whatever that is. So although originally set to 3.50 you can alter a file which lets you play on 3.41.
2) You can go online whilst spoofed I think, but if you do and sony can detect hacked consoles you could be banned. So people do not go online. There is an online lan site, cant rememebr the name, but ppl have set up game servers there so those with hacked consoles can play online, but this is with other hacked ps3s not official servers.
If you want online gaming and a jailbroken ps3, then th ebest thing to do is get a 2nd ps3.

Just a bit confused, as the ps3break site states:
"This update aims to pose as V3.50 system. Exactly speaking, firmware is modified from V3.41 to V3.50 to enable the games those need 3.5 environment. Even without upgrade, now you can also play the games those were limited to V3.5 before. The SPOOFING feature will trick the PS3 games into thinking that you are running firmware 3.50 on your system"

EDIT: Can I ask also, whats currently the best backup manager to use, is it still 'manager.pkg' or are their better ones now? I'm hoping to be able to backup games to an External HDD, but I gather to do this I will have to backup to internal HDD and then transfer to the external - is that right, and if so, is it easy to do?
Also, some games are over 4gb, which FAT32 cannot support, so they need splitting. Is their any software that would rip the disk and automatically split the files?
Much appreciated for any help :)

The link news is the old news, after PS3 break team released the news, the sony updated the firmware and stopped the method. so that's why we can't do now..
