hey guys! recently my old 360 died of RROD and instead of killing it even more with teh towel trick or trying the heatsink fix, i instead just went and bought a cheap 360 core system (i got it for $25 due to that it couldnt read discs) i popped that bastard open and replaced its dead Hitachi dvd drive with my old 360's Samsung drive. When i tried to play game i got the "Play DVD" error and after a few hours of digging through the forums here this is what i found:

1. It might be that the DVDkey doesnt match the new motherboard.. or something
2. Games arent stealthed (some are actually patched with ppf-o-matic in order to work on teh previous version of Ixtreme i had, which was 1.55 or something)
3. im SOL

I tried to play some movies and it works great and i even tried an old Xbox original and it picked it up just fine. I also upgraded the drives firmware to the new ixtreme LT but it still gives me the error even on some games that aren't patched(some of them gave me this wierd "This game only works on an xbox 360 console") Im lost here guys! can ya help me?

Also, do i have to return the samsung drive back to its original stock then flash to 1.51 again? (since the majority of my games work for that version only)if so, how do i even do that?

You need to spoof the Samsung with your original Hitachi firmware, details on how to do this are on the "JungleFlasher PDF" - Google it. Spoofing is not Xbox Live Safe

Ive tried this in the past and it hasnt worked manually unless Ive specified the Orginal Drive (OSIG) in JungleFlasher.

i did one yesterday, the box had a liteon to start with, the guy changed it with a samsung and had it spoofed as a liteon, he was trying to update the firmware to play kinnect, but it was freezing and would not complete, i flashed the samsung back to stock, then manually inserted the key from the original liteon and flashed it with sammy lt, and it completed the dash update and read all games, i am checking to see if its been flagged and so far it has not, thats not the first one i have done that way, and knock on wood i have yet to have any problems.

^^^ someone needs to add that to one of the tutorial/info threads. IMO the knowledge has too much potential to sink in a random thread.

i did feel as if we kind've hijacked this thread, but the information was valid for the problem that was introduced.

I stopped being a noob wanting to be spoon fed and finally downloaded the JF Tutorial lol After a good read i finally understood how to spoof a drive (which was stupid easy haha)and around 3 in teh morning i got my drive to function correctly and play all my burned games! thanks guys :]

If any of you reading this want to know how here's my lil tut:

As stated before, you cant just replace a 360's dvd drive and think it will work! the thing is that each motherboard has kinda of a key that the dvd drive has to match with or else the drive wont play games. All you have to do really is just extract the .bin from teh old drive, if its hitachi (like in my case) i had to get the hitachi in mode b then press "Read to source" and thsi way it extracts the HTC XXXXX.bin (or something like that) and all you do is save it somewhere safe.

I personally had problem with this due to that i had no idea how to get teh drive off mode b... so i just kinda DC'd it (which i assume is.. BAD) but i got what i wanted! I then DC'd the Hitachi drive and put in my n old Samsung drive and then preceded to get it in vendor mode. Once in vendor mode i then went to the first tab of JungleFlasher and clicked "open source firmware" and opened my Hitachi drives .bin that i made earlier. All you have to do next is just click "Open Target firmware" i chose my old ixtreme 1.51 samsung as my target (since all my games only work on that version but you can choose whatever version you want) i then just clicked the "Spoof source to target" and it will replace your targets "7777777777777777777777" dvdkey with the hitachi's Dvdkey! just go back to MTK flash 32 and click "write" and wait for it to verify and take the drive off Vendor mode and DONE!

This is what I did but it might be the wrong process (to teh senior members) But it worked for me =] oh and please ignore my crappy grammar and spelling haha
