Hey Everyone,
I was hoping someone can help me out!
I recently got a Playstation 3(CECH01)from my friend because he said a error code came up and it wasnt working. I got it home plugged it in and no video or audio no output at all! With the Hard Disk Light (Amber light next to the USBs)SOLID! I hear it trying to boot but nothing. SO I tried video reset on HDMI and AV first...nothing....Tried doing the hard reset..holding the standby turns on then off then hold again beeps etc. no output still! Tried taking out the HDD and putting it back in nothing... The PS3 takes discs but doesnt boot them... The PS3 wont recognize controllers or any thing in the USB ports. I dont know what else to try. I have looked online but nothing really fits with my PS3s problem... Maybe bad HDD? I have another 60gb PS3 I can backup that Hard drive and try that HDD in this PS3? Maybe thats why it wont boot or something? Bad Motherboard?
I have found some good threads on AfterDawn so I figured I would try it out!
Any Help is greatly Appreciated!
Thank you

Have you tried it without HDD?
If the hdd is the problem and you completely remove it, it will boot up but it will just display the Correct disk isnt found (or something like that) but at least you'll see if the PS3 outputs video or not.
You can try the hdd from the other ps3 but have in mind that the back up/restore takes too long...... and you will loose everything if you dont back up your data cause the new ps3 will have to format the HDD to use it.

SO I tried it without the HDD and it booted the screen you said "correct disk not found" So thats progress for video. Now is there anyway to salvage or format this corrupt HDD? Or am I better off buying new?
Thank you for your help.
I actually read the ps3 wouldnt start if HDD wasnt in. but they didnt mention a screen.

If i hooked the PS3 HDD to my computer and fully format it, it should work right? Because the ps3 should reformat it with their OS when inserted? Do you think this will fix the boot error?

Great!
Yes if you connect the HDD to your pc you can format it and PS3 will format it again.
I have done it once but i really cant recall if i done it using acronis or the windows disk management.
Either way I would recommend Acronis Disk Director Suite.
But be sure to do a full format, not a quick format, just to be sure that the HDD condition is ok.
If the HDD condition is good, PS3 will reformat it and eventually you will have a full working PS3 ;)
Edit:
by the way when you said
Quote: Tried doing the hard reset..holding the standby turns on then off then hold again beeps etc. no output still!
did you mean this?

I ask you cause this will be something new (at least for me) that with an HDD problem the recovery isn't accessible.
If you havent done it, give it a go and select option 2 and after option 3

You don't need to do a full format...you just need to rewrite the partition table so that the PS3 format utility is forced to start from scratch.
open the command prompt as administrator.
type "diskpart"
type "list disk", get the number for the disk in question
type "select disk X", where X is the number of the disk
type "clean"
type "create partition primary"
...this takes only a minute or so, and does the job better than a full format.
